SUMMARY:The Resistance Cafe Inauguration with the Femmes!
DESCRIPTION:The Resistance Café\, a new\, monthly coffeehouse and open mic for LGBTQ+ teens\, young adults and allies\, will celebrate its inauguration on Thursday\, January 23 with special guests the Femmes\, at First Parish Church in Beverly\, Unitarian Universalist\, 225 Cabot St.\, Beverly\, MA. The entrance is on Briscoe Street. Doors open at 6:00 PM. The program will end at 9:00 PM. There is no admission\, but free-will donations will gratefully be accepted. \nThe Café series is a collaborative social justice project co-led and organized by FPC Youth Group members and youth and young adults from the greater community. The Café is intended to serve as a platform for the voices and creativity of queer youth\, young adults\, and their allies. \nThough youth and young-adult centric\, all ages are welcome. \nThe Café’s evening will begin with a social time for conversation and refreshments before shifting into a listening room to enjoy open mic performances followed by an acoustic set by the Femmes. \nThe Open Mic will offer ten-minute spots for performers to share music\, poetry\, stories\, magic\, comedy\, etc. Priority will be given to teens and young adults. Others are welcome as space permits. \nThe Femmes are an all-woman\, non-binary band specializing in songs by female and non-binary artists. Founded in 2022 by Ellie Brigida\, their roster includes Berklee alumni\, touring artists\, veteran wedding band performers\, and pit band musicians. They’re so excited to play an acoustic set at the Resistance Cafe for its inaugural event! \nThe Café series will continue on fourth Thursdays through June. \nThis project is funded in part with a Youth and Young Adult Partnership Grant from the Unitarian Universalist Association.
