SUMMARY:Rodrigo Y Gabriela
DESCRIPTION:Grammy Award winning duo Rodrigo y Gabriela grew up on an eclectic mix of classic rock\, heavy metal and flamenco\, a rare alchemy of influences that still informs their work today. Not long after the dissolution of their first band\, the two musicians set off with their acoustic guitars and ended up in Ireland\, where they soon ran out of money and began busking on Dublin’s Grafton Street — a turn of events that led to their crossing paths with Irish singer/songwriter Damien Rice\, who then asked them to open for him at an early headline show. As they developed their distinct breed of guitar music\, Rodrigo y Gabriela quickly gained recognition for their extraordinary live show and made their full-length debut with 2002’s re-Foc. Along with turning out 8 additional acclaimed and kaleidoscopic albums over the years: including Area 52 (a 2012 effort made with a Cuban orchestra)\, 9 Dead Alive (a 2014 release that spotlighted their more rock-leaning sensibilities) and the 2020 Grammy winning Best Contemporary Instrumental Album\, Mettavolution\, the duo has cemented their status as a globally renowned live act. Among their many successes: performing at The White House for the President and First Lady of Mexico at a 2010 event hosted by Barack Obama; headlining the Jazz World stage at Glastonbury; selling out major venues like the Hollywood Bowl\, Red Rocks Amphitheatre\, London’s Royal Albert Hall\, Radio City Music Hall\, and the Sydney Opera House; and performing to massive crowds in such far-flung cities as Tokyo and Paris. 2023 sees the release of their most ambitious project yet\, the Advaita Vedanta inspired In Between Thoughts…A New World\, which features their signature dual guitar attack augmented by a full orchestra\, and a corresponding world tour.

SUMMARY:Couples Therapy
DESCRIPTION:True fact: We all start out female in the womb. Don’t believe us guys\, just look at your chest – It’s the reason you have nipples. Has that sunk in? 22 of the 23 pairs of chromosomes between us are identical. In fact\, there are only about 78 genes that separate us. In Couples Therapy we explore and exploit these differences in all their magnificent and hilarious glory.\nCouples Therapy is a 90-minute theatrical show led by a pair of married\, relationship experts who dynamically take on several characters and skits throughout the performance. From start to finish the performers interact with the audience both directly as well as through response surveys that are completed prior to the show. It is truly a unique and clever combination of theatre\, stand-up comedy\, and improv that is as funny as it is insightful. \nAudiences go on a hilarious and interactive ride as the relationship experts attempt to help couples with their relationships\, but as the show wears on we see that they have more problems than their patients! \nAnd fear not guys\, this is not one of those beat down sessions on men. Instead\, we equally explore\, appreciate\, and laugh at the differences between men and women. Couples Therapy offers endless humor packed with practical relationship advice rooted in science and psychology (we really did our homework!) So strap in\, as we don’t just break the fourth wall\, we smash right through it!

SUMMARY:The Machine
DESCRIPTION:The Machine has forged a 30+ year reputation of extending the musical legacy of Pink Floyd. The New York-based quartet performs a diverse mix of The Floyd’s extensive 16-album repertoire\, complete with faithful renditions of popular hits as well as obscure gems. \nWith stellar musicianship and passionate delivery\, The Machine explores collective improvisation rivaling that of an early 1970’s Pink Floyd\, while their use of expanded theatrical elements and elaborate stage displays and lighting continues The Floyd spirit of the 1980’s. The band is also known for recreating entire albums as a part of their show\, accepting requests from fans\, and for taking an A – Z approach in which one song is played for every letter of the alphabet. \nThe Machine has sold out theaters\, premier showcase rooms and casinos across North America\, Europe and Asia\, performed at renowned music festivals such as Bonnaroo\, Riverbend\, and Gathering of the Vibes\, and shared the stage with full symphony orchestras\, including the Atlanta\, Detroit\, Pittsburgh\, Jacksonville\, Charlotte and San Diego Symphonies\, as well as the Buffalo Philharmonic. \nThe band features founding member Tahrah Cohen (drums)\, longtime bandmates Scott Chasolen (keys\, vocals) and Ryan Ball (guitar\, vocals)\, and newest member Chris DeAngelis (bass\, lead vocals). The band continues on to celebrate the music of Pink Floyd and to honor the life of Joe Pascarell\, who co-founded the band with Tahrah in 1988. \n“They duplicate the sound and hits of Pink Floyd with chilling accuracy\, and they play for a hell of a long time.” – Matt Diehl\, Rolling Stone \n“These guys are great!” – Bob Ezrin\, Co-Producer\, Pink Floyd’s The Wall \n“The Machine look nothing like Pink Floyd\, but that doesn’t matter – they sound exactly like Pink Floyd\, and that’s what counts.” – Matthew Webber\, Spin Magazine

SUMMARY:The Jayhawks
DESCRIPTION:The incredible harmonies and distinctive arrangements of The Jayhawks set them apart from the rest of the Minneapolis music scene that emerged in the 1980s. \nOver the course of almost 4 decades\, 11 albums\, countless memorable live shows and enough personal drama to fill a couple of Behind the Music episodes\, this beloved band soared to heights few ever achieve while winning the hearts and minds of numerous critics\, fans and peers in the process. \nAfter releasing 2 Indie albums in the 80s\, The Jayhawks had become a driving force and inspiration behind the growing Americana movement in the early 1990s. Combining the talents of singer-songwriters Gary Louris and Mark Olson\, The Jayhawks released their major label debut\, the acclaimed Hollywood Town Hall (1992) on the Def American label. This was followed by Tomorrow the Green Grass (1995)\, which produced the alternative radio hit single “Blue.” \nWhen Olson left to pursue a solo career\, Louris singularly took over the songwriting role in The Jayhawks creating the band’s enduring sound on some of their best selling and well-received albums including Sound of Lies (1997)\, Smile (2000) and Rainy Day Music (2003). \nLouris continues to write and tour with the longtime core group of Marc Perlman\, Karen Grotberg\, and Tim O’Reagan. While the touring line-up has changed over the years and Olson briefly reappeared in 2010 to record and tour\, this classic lineup maintains a commitment to excellence and forward motion in their shows and in their recordings. Paging Mr. Proust (2016)\, was produced in Portland with Peter Buck and Tucker Martine and found the band moving in several new exciting directions. The band’s 10th studio album\, Back Roads And Abandoned Motels\, was released in the summer of 2018\, featuring Jayhawks versions of songs Gary Louris had previously written with other artists plus 2 new compositions. In July 2020 The Jayhawks released their latest album\, XOXO\, that features songwriting and lead vocal contributions from all 4 core members. \nThe Jayhawks have made music in 4 different decades and are as vital now as they were in 1985. They definitely have earned their reputation as a true American treasure.

SUMMARY:Laurie Berkner
DESCRIPTION:VIP INCLUDES POST-SHOW MEET AND GREET \n$1 will be added to single and VIP tickets supporting the MA based non profit EmpoweringHer\, an organization with a very specific mission: to empower\, support\, and connect children and young adults who have experienced the loss of a parent through unique one-on-one mentor and community based programs that are free of charge to the family. This collaboration is supported by Twinkle Arts for Good. \nLaurie Berkner has been a professional musician since 1992\, but her success as a children’s recording artist was a surprise to her. “It was so unexpected\,” says Laurie. “I’d been performing in rock bands and struggling to write original music. Writing music for kids has not been a struggle at all. The more I started working on material for children\, the more I realized that it opened up creativity in me that I never knew I had.” \nThese days critics widely acknowledge Laurie’s major contribution toward launching what is now dubbed the progressive “kindie rock” movement – i.e. less saccharine\, more rocking music that is not dumbed down for children. But it wasn’t simply an enormous amount of talent that helped create an entire genre and skyrocketed Laurie to her current position as “the queen of kids’ music” (People magazine). It was an ability to gain parents’ enthusiasm for the songs as well. According to Laurie\, “When I’m writing a song\, I’m thinking about whether the kids will like it and whether I’m going to connect to them through it. I’m also thinking about whether I want to sing it over and over again\, so I guess that’s the part that connects with adults. ‘Old MacDonald Had a Farm’ is a great song for kids\, but I couldn’t sing it 100 times!” \nWhile Laurie never planned to be a children’s performer\, looking back on her career it almost seems inevitable. While growing up in Princeton\, New Jersey\, Laurie was always involved in music\, whether singing in choirs\, playing in bands\, or performing in musical theater. In high school and throughout college (at Rutgers University)\, she toured Europe with several choirs and orchestras as a soloist and guitarist. After graduation\, Laurie spent several years as a children’s music specialist at New York area preschool and day care centers. Working with children became the perfect creative outlet for Laurie to express her talents and create something that\, she says\, “has turned out to be incredibly Rewarding.” \nLaurie was the first recording artist ever to perform in music videos on Nick Jr. and was a beloved presence on the network’s Jack’s Big Music Show series. Her music videos now appear regularly on NBCUniversal’s Sprout House and on The Laurie Berkner Band’s YouTube channel. She is a frequent presence on SiriusXM’s Kids Place Live. Laurie also created a ten-chapter Audible Original Series titled Laurie Berkner’s Song and Story Kitchen\, which debuted in November 2018. She maintains a busy touring schedule and has performed at Lincoln Center\, Carnegie Hall\, and the White House\, among many prestigious venues. \nLaurie has released fifteen bestselling\, award-winning albums: Whaddaya Think Of That (1997); Buzz Buzz (1998); Victor Vito (1999); Under A Shady Tree (2002); Rocketship Run (2008); The Best Of The Laurie Berkner Band (2010); A Laurie Berkner Christmas (2012); Laurie Berkner Lullabies (2014); The Ultimate Laurie Berkner Band Collection (2014); Laurie Berkner’s Favorite Classic Kids’ Songs (2015); Superhero (2016); Laurie Berkner: The Dance Remixes (2017); Waiting For The Elevator (2019); Let’s Go! (2021); and Another Laurie Berkner Christmas (2022). Laurie has also released seven digital collections of her songs: Laurie Berkner’s Food Songs\, Laurie Berkner’s Animal Songs\, Laurie Berkner’s Transportation Songs\, Laurie Berkner’s Classroom Favorites\, Laurie Berkner’s Movement Songs\, Laurie Berkner’s Nature Songs\, and Love (a digital collection of favorite Laurie Berkner songs about all kinds of love). In 2022\, a remastered and vinyl edition of Laurie’s first album\, Whaddaya Think Of That? was released to celebrate the album’s 25th anniversary. \nLaurie’s Two Tomatoes Records has co-released (with Razor & Tie Entertainment) two DVDs: We Are . . . The Laurie Berkner Band (2006) and Party Day! (2011). \nLaurie authored three picture books for Simon & Schuster Books for Young Readers\, each based on one of her beloved songs: We Are the Dinosaurs\, Pillowland\, and Monster Boogie\, Laurie previously authored four books based on her songs\, including two Barnes & Noble NOOK Kids™ e-books. \nVenturing into the world of the theater Laurie has written music and lyrics for three Off- Broadway children’s musicals produced by New York City Children’s Theater: Wanda’s Monster (2013)\, The Amazing Adventures of Harvey and the Princess (2014)\, and Interstellar Cinderella (2017). \nIn 2018\, Laurie wrote and produced a 10-chapter audio series for kids called\, “Laurie Berkner’s Song and Story Kitchen”\, which was released as an Audible Original on audible. Season 2 was released in 2022. Laurie continues to be inspired by her audience. “I want to create songs that matter for children\,” she says. “I was singing once and saw a four-year-old girl shut her eyes and start swaying to the music. I thought\, ‘That’s the reason I got into music.’ It keeps me wanting to do more.” \nWhen she’s not making music\, Laurie enjoys visiting the farmers’ market for organic produce\, knitting\, biking and spending time with her husband\, Brian\, and their daughter\, Lucy. They live in New York City.

SUMMARY:John Brown's Body & Easy Star All-Stars
DESCRIPTION:JOHN BROWN’S BODY & EASY STAR ALL STARS COME TOGETHER FOR ONE EPIC NIGHT OF MUSIC \nABOUT JOHN BROWN’S BODY\nThe torch has been relit! Featuring a group of long time JBB players\, including founding members Kevin Kinsella\, Tommy Benedetti\, and Lee Hamilton\, the undisputed OGs of the scene are fired up to hit the stage in 2024. The group has been on sabbatical the past few years\, taking a break from the road and studio. But family is always family\, and in early 2023\, with JBB still dormant\, Kinsella reached out to Benedetti about getting together to play some of the classic era JBB music. The crew was assembled\, featuring players from all different periods of JBB’s history. After a handful of recent shows the embers were burning – the music was sounding better than ever and the time was right. So\, with the support and blessing of Elliot Martin\, the torch will be re-lit. \nThe band will be doing select dates in 2024 under the name John Brown’s Body\, with founder Kevin Kinsella back at the helm. In addition to founding members Kinsella\, Benedetti and Hamilton\, the group features Nate Edgar (bass\, 2006-2016)\, Jon Pentronzio (keys\, 2009-2018)\, and TJ Schaper (trombone\, 2015-2018)\, who collectively have decades of service with JBB. Van Gordon Martin (guitar – Skatalites\, G Love\, and more) has been in the family over fifteen years and joins the group for the first time on stage. The 2024 live show will feature music from the first 5 classic era JBB records and the band looks forward to presenting this music with a rejuvenated\, electric vibe to the fans. \nABOUT EASY STAR ALL STARS\nBlending musical versatility\, instrumental prowess\, beautiful vocal harmonies\, and a premier rhythm section\, Easy Star All-Stars have established themselves as one of the top international reggae acts on the scene for nearly two decades. During this time\, they’ve toured in over 30 countries on 6 continents bringing together fans of reggae\, classic rock\, dub\, and indie rock into one big family. \nIn 2023\, the band will release its first new album in its best-selling series of tribute albums in 11 years. The series began with Dub Side Of The Moon (2003)\, the critically-acclaimed reggae re-working of the classic Pink Floyd album\, then continued with Radiodread (2006)\, Easy Star’s Lonely Hearts Dub Band (2009)\, and Easy Star’s Thrillah (2012)\, as well as the remix album Dubber Side of the Moon (2010). The All-Stars have also released two original collections\, Until That Day EP (2008) and First Light (2011). \nThe new tribute is a complete reggae re-imagining of David Bowie’s The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust and The Spiders from Mars album. Featured guest performers on the record include Macy Gray\, Maxi Priest\, Steel Pulse\, Fishbone\, Mortimer\, The Skints\, The Expanders\, Samory I\, Naomi Cowan\, SunDub\, Alex Lifeson (Rush)\, and Vernon Reid (Living Colour).

SUMMARY:Al Di Meola
DESCRIPTION:THE ELECTRIC YEARS \nLIMITED NUMBER OF VIP PACKAGES AVAILABLE DURING CHECKOUT. VIP PACKAGE INCLUDES MEET & GREET DURING SOUNDCHECK\nw/ FULL BAND:\nGumbi Ortiz – percussion\nLuis Alicea – drums\nElias Tona – bass\nCarmelo Medina – second guitar \nAl Di Meola\, a bonafide living Guitar Legend inducted into the Gallery of Greats is among the top guitarists of our time. His ongoing fascination with complex rhythmic syncopation combined with provocative lyrical melodies and sophisticated harmony has been at the heart of his music throughout a celebrated career that has spanned four decades and earned him critical accolades\, four gold albums\, two platinum albums\, more than six million in record sales worldwide\, five German gold albums\, and various awards including an Honorary Doctorate Degree from Berklee College of Music\, the Honorary Miles Davis Award presented by the Montreal Jazz Festival\, a BBC Lifetime Achievement Award presented by Sir George Martin in 2008\, Hungarian Foundation for Performing Arts Lyra Award\, and numerous Grammy nominations and awards. Al is the recipient of the most prestigious guitar awards ever given\, a total of 12 awards from Guitar Player Magazine polls and as a result\, was inducted into their Gallery of Greats. \nNot only a guitar hero\, but a prolific composer\, he has amassed over 30 albums as a leader while collaborating on a dozen or so others with the likes of the fusion supergroup Return to Forever(with Chick Corea\, Stanley Clarke and Lenny White)\, the celebrated acoustic Guitar Trio featuring fellow virtuosos John McLaughlin and Paco de Lucia\, and the Rite of Strings trio with bassist Clarke and violinist Jean-Luc Ponty. And while his dazzling technique on both acoustic and electric guitars has afforded him regal status among the hordes of fretboard fanatics who regularly flock to his concerts\, the depth of Di Meola’s writing along with the soulfulness and the inherent lyricism of his guitaristic expression have won him legions of fans worldwide beyond the guitar aficionado set. \nA pioneer of blending world music and jazz\, going back to early Latin-tinged fusion outings like 1976’s Land of the Midnight Sun\, 1977’s Elegant Gypsy and 1978’s Casino\, the guitar great continues to explore the rich influence of flamenco\, tango\, Middle Eastern\, Brazilian and African music with his World Sinfonia\, an ambitious pan-global group that he formed in 1991. Their exhilarating world music fusion has been documented on such releases as 2000’s The Grande Passion (featuring the Toronto Symphony Orchestra)\, 2007’s Live in London\, 2011’s Pursuit of Radical Rhapsody and the stunning 2012 DVD\, Morocco Fantasia (recorded at the Mawazine Festival in Rabat\, Morocco and featuring special guests Said Chraibi on oud\, Abdellah Meri on violin and Tari Ben Ali on percussion). \nGrowing up in Bergenfield\, NJ with the music of The Ventures and The Beatles\, Di Meola naturally gravitated to guitar as a youngster and by his early teens was already an accomplished player. Attaining such impressive skills at such a young age didn’t come easy for Al\, but rather was the result of focused dedication and intensive periods of woodshedding between his junior and senior years in high school. “I used to practice the guitar all night after school and once in college\, 6 – 8 hours per day” he told Down Beat. “And I was trying to find myself\, or find the kind of music that suited where I was going with the guitar.” \nHis earliest role models in jazz included guitarists Tal Farlow and Kenny Burrell. But when he discovered Larry Coryell\, whom Al would later dub “The Godfather of Fusion\,” he was taken with \nthe guitarist’s unprecedented blending of jazz\, blues and rock into one seamless vocabulary on the instrument. “I used to ride the bus from New Jersey to see him at little clubs in Greenwich Village\,” he recalls. “Wherever he was playing\, I’d be there.” In 1972\, Al enrolled at the Berklee College of Music in Boston and by the second semester there began playing in a fusion quartet led by keyboardist Barry Miles. When a gig tape of that band was later passed on to Chick Corea by a friend of Al’s in 1974\, the 19-year-old guitarist was tapped to join Corea’s fusion supergroup Return to Forever. After three landmark recordings with Return to Forever — 1974’s Where Have I Known You Before\, 1975’s Grammy Award winning No Mystery and 1976’s Romantic Warrior — the group disbanded and Al subsequently started up his career as a solo artist. His 1976 debut as a leader\, Land of the Midnight Sun\, was a blazing showcase of his signature chops and Latintinged compositions that featured a stellar cast including drummers Steve Gadd and Lenny White\, bassist Anthony Jackson and Jaco Pastorius\, keyboardists Jan Hammer\, Barry Miles and Chick Corea and percussionist Mingo Lewis. Over the course of six more albums with Columbia Records – Elegant Gypsy\, Casino\, Splendido Hotel\, Electric Rendezvous\, Tour De Force and Scenario – Al established himself as an influential force in contemporary music. 1980 marked the triumph of the acoustic guitar trio with Paco De Lucia and John McLaughlin. Their debut recording on Columbia Records\, Friday Night in San Francisco\, became a landmark recording that surpassed the four million mark in sales. The three virtuosos in the trio toured together from 1980 through 1983\, releasing the studio album Passion\, Grace & Fire in 1982. In 1995\, they reunited for a third recording\, Guitar Trio\, followed by another triumphant world tour. \nIn early 1996\, Di Meola formed a new trio with the violinist Jean-Luc Ponty and RTF bandmate Stanley Clarke called The Rite of Strings. Their self-titled debut was released in 1995. Di Meola subsequently recorded with the likes of opera superstar Luciano Pavarotti\, pop stars Paul Simon\, classical guitarist Manuel Barrueco\, and Italian pop star Pino Daniele. Over the course of his career\, he has also worked and recorded with Phil Collins\, Carlos Santana\, Steve Winwood\, Wayne Shorter\, Tony Williams\, Herbie Hancock\, Gonzalo Rubalcaba\, Milton Naciemento\, Egberto Gismonti\, Stevie Wonder\, Les Paul\, Jimmy Page\, Steve Vai\, Frank Zappa and Cuban pianist Gonzalo Rubalcaba. \nDi Meola’s 2013 release “All Your Life” recorded at Abbey Road Studios was an acoustic tour de force that had him revisiting the music of a seminal influence – The Beatles. “I really credit the Beatles for the reason why I play guitar\,” he says. “That was a major catalyst for me to want to learn music\, so their impact was pretty strong.” A virtual one-man show of virtuosity\, it features the guitar great interpreting 14familiar Beatles tunes in the stripped-down setting of strictly acoustic guitar. \nIn 2015 he released Elysium\, which finds the guitar great blending the lush tones of his nylon string Conde Hermanos acoustic prototype model and a ’71 Les Paul electric (his Return to Forever and Elegant Gypsy axe) in a collection of songs that are at once invigorating and alluring. “It represents a new composition phase for me\, whereby the writing became\, in a sense\, my therapy during a challenging personal transition in my life\,” he said. In the same year he was honored as the 22nd recipient of the Montreal Jazz Festival’s Miles Davis Award\, created in 1994 to honor a great international jazz musician for the entire body of his or her work and for that musician’s influence in regenerating the jazz idiom. \n2018 marked a new era for Al Di Meola: His first of six signed projects with German record label Ear Music\, “OPUS” was released in March. The Grammy award winning virtuoso says: “With Opus I wanted to further my compositional skills as I think that the evolution of this part of my persona has labelled me more composer/guitarist than guitarist/composer. For the first time in my life\, I have written music being happy\, I’m in a wonderful relationship with my wife\, I have a baby girl and a beautiful family that inspires me every day. I believe it shows in the music.” \nA retrospective of Al Di Meola’s nearly 50 year acclaimed career is expressed through his latest Ear Music release of March 2020 “ACROSS THE UNIVERSE” with his virtuosic arrangements and creative interpretations of 14 Beatles songs with a larger scale full production featuring orchestrations balanced with lavish acoustic arrangements and electric guitar. \nCurrent work includes an autobiography and a new solo guitar record of 13 brand new compositions. Al is also very proud to announce the upcoming April 2022 release of “Saturday Night in San Francisco” from the 1980 tour of the Guitar Trio with John McLaughlin and the late Paco de Lucia.

SUMMARY:Shovels & Rope
DESCRIPTION:WITH AL OLENDER ON SUPPORT \nAs the Brontë sister wrote\, “The ties that bind us to life are tougher than you imagine.” Shovels & Rope\, the musical duo of Michael Trent and Cary Ann Hearst\, embody that bond. Married for a decade\, their covenant extends to blood and beyond: as parents\, bandmates\, and creative collaborators who can now add the pursuits of festival curators\, film subjects\, and children’s book authors to that mighty list. Having released four studio albums and two collaborative projects (Busted Jukebox\, Vol. 1 & 2) since 2008\, Trent and Hearst have built their reputation on skill\, sweat\, and\, yes\, blood. Now\, with the tough and elegant new record By Blood\, as well as their High Water Festival in their hometown of Charleston\, South Carolina\, “Shovels & Rope: The Movie”\, and the picture book “C’mon Utah!”\, Shovels & Rope are primed for their biggest year yet. \nAccomplished musicians in their own right prior to dedicating themselves full time to Shovels & Rope in 2011\, Trent and Hearst have made a career together by seizing opportunities and never resting on their laurels or being complacent in doing something just because. Carving out a niche in the music world with strong\, roots/indie/folk/rock-inspired efforts like 2012’s O’ Be Joyful\, 2014’s Swimmin’ Time\, and 2016’s inward-looking Little Seeds\, as well as their powerful live show\, far-reaching tours\, and myriad TV and festival appearances\, Shovels & Rope have earned the right to follow their own muse. And so\, in an effort to satisfy their numerous creative interests and adapt to a changing industry\, Trent and Hearst have firmly planted their flag in realms beyond recording and releasing albums. \nThe third annual High Water Festival curated by the band will be held over a weekend in April and will bring 10\,000 fans to a park in North Charleston to witness a lineup of artists comparable to some of the best in the country—including Leon Bridges\, The Head & The Heart\, Lord Huron\, Jenny Lewis\, Mitski\, and Shovels & Rope themselves. High Water benefits select organizations and water conservation charities in Charleston and aims to avoid the feeling of corporate inundation and discomfort that plagues many big-name music events. Trent and Hearst work with production companies and agencies to book acts\, then serve as on-site hosts in addition to performing throughout the weekend. \n“Shovels & Rope: The Movie” is a performance film that has been expanded into feature-length with an external narrative weaving through and connecting the live performances. Directed by their frequent visual collaborator\, Curtis Millard\, the ‘live show’ portion of the filming took place over two nights at The Orange Peel in Asheville\, North Carolina\, during the tour for Little Seeds. The rest of the film was shot in various locations in and around the Southeast. The result can be described as a David Lynch meets John Hughes (a fun\, silly\, and tongue-in-cheek film for fans to enjoy that also represents the band at the peak of their live power.) \nThe children’s book\, “C’mon Utah!”\, sets the lyrics from the new song of the same name to illustrations by the artist Julio Cotto. It is an inspirational story\, set in the future aftermath of the building and subsequent destruction of the southern border wall. The separated and displaced families are figuring out how to start to put the pieces back together. Communities form to organize and support each other. The parents in these communities tell stories to lift the children spirits and maintain hope through sadness and despair. One such story is about a magic horse named Utah who has the power to help to reunite them with their families on the other side of the devastation. The book is intended as a conversation starter for parents and children to discuss immigration and diversity. \nTrent and Hearst have learned to juggle their busy schedules by relying on each other as well as their team\, and by seizing every chance for efficiency. They realized one such opportunity by building a modest studio at home\, which is where they began to record By Blood in May of 2018. The new space in their back yard provides a sanctuary where their gear can remain at the ready\, a luxury conducive to their creative process—especially when sharing a home with kids. \nBy Blood’s ten songs are vignettes that focus on vulnerable\, human characters laid bare\, while the textures are gritty\, sweeping\, and profound. These are tales of inherently good yet incomplete people whose faults are on the table in plain sight\, a trait that endears the subjects to the listener and that the songwriters recognize in themselves. \nThe first single “The Wire” is about accepting your own faults and learning to say you’re sorry. Its stylishly minimal verses and wall of sound chorus recall some raw\, girl-group era drama as well as timeless rock and roll. As the gorgeous\, dark lullaby of the title track brings the album to its end\, the beautiful\, cinematic journey of By Blood has left its mark. \nAnd so\, bound by blood\, by sweat\, and by love—of creativity\, craft\, and family—Shovels & Rope are coming out swinging. From the bind in their band name itself to the shared life they have built from scratch\, it’s clear that Trent and Hearst are in constant pursuit of their best selves—together.

SUMMARY:Black Violin
DESCRIPTION:VIP PACKAGE INCLUDES: \nInvitation to a private pre-show experience including:\nAccess to view a portion of soundcheck\nModerated Q&A\nPhoto opportunity with Kev and Wil\nVIP access to the merchandise booth and a 20% discount on any available item\nCommemorative VIP laminate\nEarly entry to the venue\nFor nearly two decades\, Black Violin has been merging string arrangements with modern beats and vocals and building bridges in communities along the way. Members Kev MarcusandWil Baptistefirst met in orchestra class at Dillard High School in Fort Lauderdale\, becoming classically trained on the violin and viola through their high school and college careers. Post-college\, they reconvened to produce beats for South Florida rappers\, and began building an audience in local clubs. They later went on to win Showtime at the Apollo in 2005\, and eventually sold out headline performances at venues across the country\, including a sold out two-night headline run at The Kennedy Center in 2018. NPR took note and declared “their music will keep classical music alive for the next generation.” Black Violin’s 2019 album release\, Take the Stairs\, earned a Grammy Award nomination for “Best Contemporary Instrumental Album”. The band also recently received their second ever Grammy Award nomination for the track “The Message” as Best Americana Performance\, in collaboration with The Blind Boys of Alabama. \nBlack Violin has plays roughly 200 shows a year; many of which are performances for young\, low-income students in urban communities. In the last year alone\, the group has played for over 100\,000 students with the goal of challenging stereotypes and preconceived notions of what a “classical musician” looks and sounds like. “The stereotypes are always there\, embedded so deep in our culture\,” says Wil. “Just by nature of our existence we challenge those ideas. It’s a unique thing that brings people together who aren’t usually in the same room\, and in the current climate\, it’s good to bring people together.” \nIn 2019\, the group launched the Black Violin Foundation Inc.\, a non-profit organization dedicated to empowering youth by providing access to quality music programs in their community. BVF believes that music and access to music programs should not be determined by race\, gender\, or socio-economic status. Black Violin Foundation’s inaugural program the Musical Innovation Grant for Continuing Education will provide scholarships to young music students to attend a program of their liking that fosters musical creativity and innovation. \nFor more info on Black Violin: http://www.blackviolin.net \nFor more info on the Black Violin Foundation: http://www.blackviolinfoundation.org \nDiscography: http://blackviolin.net/albums/
