SUMMARY:Shovels & Rope
DESCRIPTION:WITH AL OLENDER ON SUPPORT \nAs the Brontë sister wrote\, “The ties that bind us to life are tougher than you imagine.” Shovels & Rope\, the musical duo of Michael Trent and Cary Ann Hearst\, embody that bond. Married for a decade\, their covenant extends to blood and beyond: as parents\, bandmates\, and creative collaborators who can now add the pursuits of festival curators\, film subjects\, and children’s book authors to that mighty list. Having released four studio albums and two collaborative projects (Busted Jukebox\, Vol. 1 & 2) since 2008\, Trent and Hearst have built their reputation on skill\, sweat\, and\, yes\, blood. Now\, with the tough and elegant new record By Blood\, as well as their High Water Festival in their hometown of Charleston\, South Carolina\, “Shovels & Rope: The Movie”\, and the picture book “C’mon Utah!”\, Shovels & Rope are primed for their biggest year yet. \nAccomplished musicians in their own right prior to dedicating themselves full time to Shovels & Rope in 2011\, Trent and Hearst have made a career together by seizing opportunities and never resting on their laurels or being complacent in doing something just because. Carving out a niche in the music world with strong\, roots/indie/folk/rock-inspired efforts like 2012’s O’ Be Joyful\, 2014’s Swimmin’ Time\, and 2016’s inward-looking Little Seeds\, as well as their powerful live show\, far-reaching tours\, and myriad TV and festival appearances\, Shovels & Rope have earned the right to follow their own muse. And so\, in an effort to satisfy their numerous creative interests and adapt to a changing industry\, Trent and Hearst have firmly planted their flag in realms beyond recording and releasing albums. \nThe third annual High Water Festival curated by the band will be held over a weekend in April and will bring 10\,000 fans to a park in North Charleston to witness a lineup of artists comparable to some of the best in the country—including Leon Bridges\, The Head & The Heart\, Lord Huron\, Jenny Lewis\, Mitski\, and Shovels & Rope themselves. High Water benefits select organizations and water conservation charities in Charleston and aims to avoid the feeling of corporate inundation and discomfort that plagues many big-name music events. Trent and Hearst work with production companies and agencies to book acts\, then serve as on-site hosts in addition to performing throughout the weekend. \n“Shovels & Rope: The Movie” is a performance film that has been expanded into feature-length with an external narrative weaving through and connecting the live performances. Directed by their frequent visual collaborator\, Curtis Millard\, the ‘live show’ portion of the filming took place over two nights at The Orange Peel in Asheville\, North Carolina\, during the tour for Little Seeds. The rest of the film was shot in various locations in and around the Southeast. The result can be described as a David Lynch meets John Hughes (a fun\, silly\, and tongue-in-cheek film for fans to enjoy that also represents the band at the peak of their live power.) \nThe children’s book\, “C’mon Utah!”\, sets the lyrics from the new song of the same name to illustrations by the artist Julio Cotto. It is an inspirational story\, set in the future aftermath of the building and subsequent destruction of the southern border wall. The separated and displaced families are figuring out how to start to put the pieces back together. Communities form to organize and support each other. The parents in these communities tell stories to lift the children spirits and maintain hope through sadness and despair. One such story is about a magic horse named Utah who has the power to help to reunite them with their families on the other side of the devastation. The book is intended as a conversation starter for parents and children to discuss immigration and diversity. \nTrent and Hearst have learned to juggle their busy schedules by relying on each other as well as their team\, and by seizing every chance for efficiency. They realized one such opportunity by building a modest studio at home\, which is where they began to record By Blood in May of 2018. The new space in their back yard provides a sanctuary where their gear can remain at the ready\, a luxury conducive to their creative process—especially when sharing a home with kids. \nBy Blood’s ten songs are vignettes that focus on vulnerable\, human characters laid bare\, while the textures are gritty\, sweeping\, and profound. These are tales of inherently good yet incomplete people whose faults are on the table in plain sight\, a trait that endears the subjects to the listener and that the songwriters recognize in themselves. \nThe first single “The Wire” is about accepting your own faults and learning to say you’re sorry. Its stylishly minimal verses and wall of sound chorus recall some raw\, girl-group era drama as well as timeless rock and roll. As the gorgeous\, dark lullaby of the title track brings the album to its end\, the beautiful\, cinematic journey of By Blood has left its mark. \nAnd so\, bound by blood\, by sweat\, and by love—of creativity\, craft\, and family—Shovels & Rope are coming out swinging. From the bind in their band name itself to the shared life they have built from scratch\, it’s clear that Trent and Hearst are in constant pursuit of their best selves—together.

SUMMARY:Black Violin
DESCRIPTION:VIP PACKAGE INCLUDES: \nInvitation to a private pre-show experience including:\nAccess to view a portion of soundcheck\nModerated Q&A\nPhoto opportunity with Kev and Wil\nVIP access to the merchandise booth and a 20% discount on any available item\nCommemorative VIP laminate\nEarly entry to the venue\nFor nearly two decades\, Black Violin has been merging string arrangements with modern beats and vocals and building bridges in communities along the way. Members Kev MarcusandWil Baptistefirst met in orchestra class at Dillard High School in Fort Lauderdale\, becoming classically trained on the violin and viola through their high school and college careers. Post-college\, they reconvened to produce beats for South Florida rappers\, and began building an audience in local clubs. They later went on to win Showtime at the Apollo in 2005\, and eventually sold out headline performances at venues across the country\, including a sold out two-night headline run at The Kennedy Center in 2018. NPR took note and declared “their music will keep classical music alive for the next generation.” Black Violin’s 2019 album release\, Take the Stairs\, earned a Grammy Award nomination for “Best Contemporary Instrumental Album”. The band also recently received their second ever Grammy Award nomination for the track “The Message” as Best Americana Performance\, in collaboration with The Blind Boys of Alabama. \nBlack Violin has plays roughly 200 shows a year; many of which are performances for young\, low-income students in urban communities. In the last year alone\, the group has played for over 100\,000 students with the goal of challenging stereotypes and preconceived notions of what a “classical musician” looks and sounds like. “The stereotypes are always there\, embedded so deep in our culture\,” says Wil. “Just by nature of our existence we challenge those ideas. It’s a unique thing that brings people together who aren’t usually in the same room\, and in the current climate\, it’s good to bring people together.” \nIn 2019\, the group launched the Black Violin Foundation Inc.\, a non-profit organization dedicated to empowering youth by providing access to quality music programs in their community. BVF believes that music and access to music programs should not be determined by race\, gender\, or socio-economic status. Black Violin Foundation’s inaugural program the Musical Innovation Grant for Continuing Education will provide scholarships to young music students to attend a program of their liking that fosters musical creativity and innovation. \nFor more info on Black Violin: http://www.blackviolin.net \nFor more info on the Black Violin Foundation: http://www.blackviolinfoundation.org \nDiscography: http://blackviolin.net/albums/

SUMMARY:Rhiannon Giddens
DESCRIPTION:Rhiannon Giddens has made a singular\, iconic career out of stretching her brand of folk music\, with its miles-deep historical roots and contemporary sensibilities\, into just about every field imaginable. A two-time GRAMMY Award-winning singer and instrumentalist\, MacArthur “Genius” grant recipient\, and composer of opera\, ballet\, and film\, Giddens has centered her work around the mission of lifting up people whose contributions to American musical history have previously been overlooked or erased\, and advocating for a more accurate understanding of the country’s musical origins through art. \nAs Pitchfork once said\, “few artists are so fearless and so ravenous in their exploration”—a journey that has led to NPR naming her one of its 25 Most Influential Women Musicians of the 21st Century and to American Songwriter calling her “one of the most important musical minds currently walking the planet.” \nForher highly anticipated third solo studio album\, You’re The One\, out August 18 on Nonesuch Records\, she recruited producer Jack Splash (Kendrick Lamar\, Solange\, Alicia Keys\, Valerie June\, Tank and the Bangas) to help her bring this collection of songs that she’d written over the course of her career—her first album of all originals—to life at Criteria Recording Studios in Miami last November. Together with a band composed of Giddens’s closest musical collaborators from the past decade alongside Miami-based musicians from Splash’s own Rolodex\, and topped off with a horn section making an impressive ten- to twelve-person ensemble\, they drew from the folk music that Giddens knows so deeply and its pop descendants. \nYou’re the One features electric and upright bass\, conga\, Cajun and piano accordions\, guitars\, a Western string section\, and Miami horns\, among other instruments. “I hope that people just hear American music\,” Giddens says. “Blues\, jazz\, Cajun\, country\, gospel\, and rock—it’s all there. I like to be where it meets organically.” \nThe album is in line with her previous work\, as she explains\, because it’s yet another kind of project she’s never done before. “I just wanted to expand my sound palette\,” Giddens says. “I feel like I’ve done lots in the acoustic realm\, and I certainly will again. But these songs really needed a larger field.” \nHer song-writing range is audible on You’re The One\, from the groovy funk of “Hen In The Foxhouse” to the vintage AM radio-ready ballad “Who Are You Dreaming Of” and the string-band dance music of “Way Over Yonder”—likely the most familiar sound to Giddens’ fans. Her voice\, though\, is instantly recognizable throughout\, even as the sounds around Giddens shift; she owns all of it with ease. \nThe album opens with “Too Little\, Too Late\, Too Bad\,” an R&B blast (complete with background “shoops” and a horn section) that takes a titan for inspiration. “I listened to a bunch of Aretha Franklin\, and then turned to fellow Aretha-nut Dirk Powell and said\, ‘Let’s write a song she might have sung!’” Giddens recalls. Her danceable\, vivacious tribute to Franklin’s sound is a vocal showcase\, spotlighting her soaring high notes and nearly-growling low ones. Another of the album’s highlights\, “If You Don’t Know How Sweet It Is\,” intentionally puts an edgier spin on the sass of Dolly Parton’s early work\, which Giddens channeled in the midst of some real life frustration. “I was like\, ‘I’m giving you everything\, why are you leaving?’” she recalls of writing the song\, which started as a poem. \nJason Isbell joins Giddens on “Yet To Be” as her duet partner and the album’s only featured artist. “He’s been such an ally in the industry to black women\,” Giddens says. “He’s a great singer\, and he’s uncompromisingly himself—also just a really good person.” “Yet To Be\,” the story of a black woman and an Irish man falling in love in America\, is meant to channel some of the optimistic flip side of the brutal\, real\, and undertold history that Giddens has so effectively brought to the forefront with her work. “Here’s a place\, with all its warts\, where you and I could meet from different parts of the world and start a family\, which is the true future\,” Giddens explains. “I think so much about all of the terrible things in our past and present—but things are better than they have been in a lot of ways\, and this is a song thinking about that.” \nOne of the album’s more sentimental songs\, “You’re The One\,” was inspired by a moment Giddens had with her son not long after he was born (he’s now ten years old\, and she has a fourteen-year-old daughter as well). “Your life has changed forever\, and you don’t know it until you’re in the middle of it and it hits you\,” Giddens says. “I held his little cheek up to my face\, and was just reminded\, ‘Oh my God\, my children—they have every bit of my heart.’” \n“You Louisiana Man” blends Giddens’ banjo acumen with accordion\, organ\, and fiddle to create a Zydeco-funk classic. About a feeling that Giddens “turned up to eleven” during the songwriting process\, the song shows the power of framing a record around banjo instead of guitar: “It just gives you a bit of a different vibe\,” as she puts it. \nPerhaps most potent is the song “Another Wasted Life\,” Giddens’ composition inspired by Kalief Browder\, the New York man who was incarcerated without trial on Rikers Island for three years. “People are making so much money off prison systems\,” Giddens\, who has performed for incarcerated people\, says. “They just don’t want anyone to remember that that’s happening.” Inspired sonically by another musical icon—Nina Simone—the forceful\, anthemic song channels Giddens’ rage at the broken system. “Doesn’t matter what the crime\, if indeed there was this time\,” she sings. “It’s a torture of the soul.” \nThe album teems with Giddens’ breadth of knowledge of\, curiosity about\, and experience with American vernacular musics. Though it might be filtered through a slightly more familiar blend of sounds\, You’re The One never forsakes depth and groundedness for its listenability. \n“They’re fun songs\, and I wanted them to have as much of a chance as they could to reach people who might dig them but don’t know anything about\, you know\, what I do\,” Giddens says. “If they’re introduced to me through this record\, they might go listen to other music I’ve made with a different set of ears.” \nGiddens also is exploring other mediums and creative possibilities just as actively as she has American musical history. With 1858 replica minstrel banjo in hand\, she wrote the opera Omar with film composer Michael Abels (Get Out\, Us\, Nope) and\, with her partner Francesco Turrisi\, she wrote and performed the music for Black Lucy and the Bard\, which was recorded for PBS’ Great Performances; she has appeared on the ABC hit drama Nashville and throughout Ken Burns’ Country Music series\, also on PBS. Giddens has published children’s books and written and performed music for the soundtrack of Red Dead Redemption II\, one of the best-selling video games of all time. She sang for the Obamas at the White House; is a three-time NPR Tiny Desk Concert alum; and hosts her own show on PBS\, My Music with Rhiannon Giddens\, as well as the Aria Code podcast\, which is produced by New York City’s NPR affiliate station WQXR. \n“I’ve been able to create a lot of different things around stories that are difficult to tell\, and managed to get them done in a way that’s gotten noticed\,” as Giddens puts it. “I know who to collaborate with\, and it has gotten me into all sorts of corners that I would have never expected when I started doing this.

SUMMARY:Railroad Earth
DESCRIPTION:For over two decades\, Railroad Earth has captivated audiences with gleefully unpredictable live shows and eloquent and elevated studio output. The group introduced its signature sound on 2001’s The Black Bear Sessions. Between selling out hallowed venues such as Red Rocks Amphitheatre in Morrison\, CO\, they’ve launched the longstanding annual Hangtown Music Festival in Placerville\, CA and Hillberry: The Harvest Moon Festival in Ozark\, AR—both running for a decade-plus. Sought after by legends\, the John Denver Estate tapped them to put lyrics penned by the late John Denver to music on the 2019 vinyl EP\, Railroad Earth: The John Denver Letters. Beyond tallying tens of millions of streams\, the collective have earned widespread critical acclaim from David Fricke of Rolling Stone\, American Songwriter\, Glide Magazine\, and NPR who assured\, “Well-versed in rambling around\, as you might expect from a band named after a Jack Kerouac poem\, the New Jersey-built jam-grass engine Railroad Earth has let no moss grow under its rustic wheels.”

SUMMARY:The Man In Black: A Tribute To Johnny Cash
DESCRIPTION:With his strikingly similar looks\, baritone voice\, and spot – on mannerisms\, Shawn Barker’s uncanny resemblance to the original “Man In Black” revitalizes the true character and spirit of Mr. Cash himself\, one of America’s greatest musical icons\, for a truly one – of – a – kind show. The energetic show features Barker in character throughout the entire evening\, walking the audience through each era of Cash’s life and music\, including hits like “Folsom Prison Blues\,” “I Walk The Line\,” “A Boy Named Sue\,” “Hurt\,” and “Ring of Fire\,” complete with a full backing band. \nShawn Barker’s first Man In Black show was held in 2004 at a casino in Niagara Falls and has since performed over 1\,000 shows in 12 countries\, selling more than half a million tickets over the course of his career. Born and raised in a working – class suburb of St. Louis\, Barker took a schoolboy love for singing in church with his family and turned it into a career. The path to his current success wasn’t a straight line from gospel choir to Johnny Cash tribute act. After serving his country in the Army\, Barker returned home to Missouri\, took a job as a carpenter\, and spent all of his free time learning how to play the guitar. He developed strength and versatility in his voice by modeling his crooning on a cast of legends – Johnny Cash\, Elvis Presley\, Roy Orbison\, Buddy Holly and Gene Vincent. His performances quickly turned from hobby to profession\, but oddly enough\, Barker’s first touring gigs were portraying Elvis\, not Johnny Cash. Everything changed\, however\, when Barker was asked to audition for the part of Cash in a Hollywood production\, as it became evident to the director and Barker himself that Johnny Cash was his true calling. From that point there was no turning back.

SUMMARY:Top Of The World- A Carpenter Tribute
DESCRIPTION:THE WORLD’S PREMIERE TRIBUTE TO THE CARPENTERS \nFronted by singer Debbie Taylor\, her Karen Carpenter vocal resemblance is absolutely astonishing. She is backed by a seven piece band consisting of top-notch\, professional industry musicians who have had amazing careers in their own right. The band members are all multi-instrumentalists and at times use 3 keyboards to recreate the incredibly complex arrangements created by Richard Carpenter. The attention to detail paired with saxophone\, trumpet\, flute and many more instruments complete every song to perfection! \nThis show does not use tracks or pick up musicians like other shows. This is an 8 piece band that travels and performs all shows together. Additionally\, they have a multi-media slideshow which can be seen on their “Live Video” below. \nWho can forget the incomparable music of the Carpenters? The popular brother/sister duo of the 70’s and early 80’s gave us some of the most unforgettable ballads and melodic pop songs of all time. \nThis Carpenters Tribute Band brings the most authentic versions of the Carpenters music to the stage. No doubt\, you will be singing along as they perform hits like; “Close To You”\, “We’ve Only Just Begun”\, “Rainy Days And Mondays”\, “Please Mr. Postman” and “Yesterday Once More”\, to name a few. Debbie captures the warm tones and contralto range that made Karen’s voice so unique. Sit back and enjoy as Debbie and her band take you on a nostalgic journey through the Carpenters greatest hits while sharing some of the backstories behind the music.

SUMMARY:Judy Collins Trio
DESCRIPTION:In her 50-plus years in music\, Judy Collins has always exhibited impeccable taste in songcraft. On her landmark 1967album\, Wildflowers\, she curated a stunning collection featuring originals alongside songs by not-yet household names such as Joni Mitchell and Leonard Cohen\, and adventurous selections by Jacques Brel and Francesco Landini. Her discerning palette\, and her literary gifts\, have enabled her to evolve into a poetic\, storyteller songwriter. Now\, in her 6th decade as a singer and songwriter\, Judy is experiencing a profound level of growth and prolific creativity. \nThe cultural treasure’s 55th release\, Spellbound\, out February 25\, 2022\, finds Judy enjoying an artistic renaissance. The 13 song album is a special entry in her oeuvre. It marks the first time ever she wrote all the songs on one of her albums. It features 12 new recently-written modern folk songs\, and a bonus track of her evergreen\, “The Blizzard.” Spellbound is an introspective and impressionistic album. It unfolds as if Judy curated a museum exhibit of her life\, and welcomed us into a retrospective of her most formative moments\, some big and public\, and some intensely personal and intimate. \n“They say after the plague came the Renaissance\,” Judy says with a good-natured laugh\, loosely referencing the pandemic. “The truth is\, I didn’t do an album like this sooner because I had other projects on my mind. This album was necessary for me to keep creative—it was the next piece of the puzzle.” She continues: “Now felt like the perfect time to make this record because\, after all that’s happened in the world\, we need something beautiful and inspirational to lift us up.” \nIn Judy’s eloquently written liner notes\, she dedicates Spellbound to folk masters Pete Seeger and Woody Guthrie. On the album\, she furthers their traditions of generously sharing their lives\, loves\, and personal reflection. Also\, in her notes\, Judy relates the origins of her songwriting—a story some know\, and a testament to how gloriously unpredictable art and the muse are. Story goes that in 1966 Leonard Cohen made a special trip to Judy’s apartment to play her his song\, “Suzanne\,” and\, while there\, asked her why she wasn’t writing her own songs. Her response was to sit down at her Steinway that very day and write\, “Since You’ve Asked.” Judy has been writing ever since then. \nA lifetime and 54 years of songwriting elegantly come forth from Spellbound. The album revisits the thrilling 1960s Greenwich Village years; recreates breathtaking moments in the wilds of Colorado during Judy’s childhood; snapshots her hellraising years; and frames quiet moments of nature from just a few years back. The title references a formative time in Judy’s life when her pure love of the outdoors lured her close to becoming a park ranger. Lyrically\, the songs are impressionistic and evocatively emotional. “I strove to capture what I see with lyrics\, and bring particular times to life\,” she says of the album’s painterly and personal songwriting. \nWhile she celebrates many passages in life with her lyrics\, her vocals sound untouched by time. Judy’s singing on Spellbound shines pristinely as she eases from warm low-register vocals to soaring high tones\, as if no time has elapsed since her singing mesmerized a generation on Wildflowers. “That’s a combination of good fortune\, extreme luck\, and hard work and discipline\,” she reveals. “I do a lot to protect and take care of my voice\, and I practice every day—you have to or you lose it.” \nThe majestical track\, “So Alive\,” is an exhilarating time capsule of a song that documents the dazzling excitement and possibility of 1960s folk boom in Greenwich Village. “So Alive” establishes the album’s sublimely detailed production aesthetic which features a palette of acoustic guitar\, textured electric guitar\, piano\, keys\, lyrical bass lines\, brushed drums\, and Judy’s angelic vocals. The sweetly nostalgic\, “When I was a Girl in Colorado\,” pines for those pre-fame years when Judy’s life centered around seasonal outdoor joys. \nJudy’s flair for literature\, poetry\, and her commitment to social activism shine forth on the stirring “Thomas Merton.” Merton was an author and a monk who spent most of his adult life in a monastery around Louisville\, Kentucky. He was also a potent force in the anti-war movement\, and there have been theories that his death was a murder. Judy addresses this juicy possibility with engrossing storytelling and poetic phrases. One potent passage reads: He dreamed of being an eagle with wings he would fly/from the west and north and the east/Thru rain and sleet and wind and snow/He’d find a way to bring us peace/Long after he was buried/Upon his death concealed/The evidence of bullet holes finally was revealed. The smoldering ballad\, “Arizona\,” showcases Judy’s achingly beautiful vocal floating over a piano ballad lavished with ethereal ambience and layers of heavenly harmony vocals. \nIn the studio Judy worked with a trusted family of musicians\, including co-producer Alan Silverman and singer-songwriter-guitarist Ari Hest. Ari has worked closely with Judy for years\, and\, in 2016\, Judy and Ari were nominated for a “Best Of Folk Album” Grammy for their duet album\, Silver Skies Blue. In the studio the core group of musicians on the album are multi-instrumentalist Thad DeBrock (Duncan Sheik\, Nelly\, Jonas Brothers)\, bassist Zev Katz (Marc Anthony\, Elton John\, Billy Joel)\, and drummer Doug Yowell (Suzanne Vega\, Joe Jackson\, Duncan Sheik) – additional musicians on album are detailed within the album’s liner notes. \nIn a life and a career brimming with milestone moments\, Spellbound is a high watermark of artistry and personal evolution. Though Judy has been writing for half a century\, her new album ushers in an era of unbridled creativity. “I always knew I was going to be a late bloomer\,” she says\, cracking up with laughter.

Fast forward to 2021 and the Colorado quartet—Todd Park Mohr [vocals\, guitar\, keys\, sax\, harmonica]\, Brian Nevin [drums\, percussion]\, Rob Squires [bass\, vocals]\, and Jeremy Lawton [guitar\, keys\, vocals\, steel guitar]—continue to unite audiences. \n“Friendships have spawned because of our band\,” smiles Todd. “Maybe a bit like the Grateful Dead\, the line between audience and stage has over time become a bit blurred and many lifelong friendships have been made in every direction. I’m very proud of that. Bringing people together and sharing a joy for a couple of hours is an important function of music. Music can cultivate community\, even harmony. We need that!” \nFittingly\, the guys in the band began as friends as well. Todd and Brian first crossed paths in high school jazz band circa 1982. Soon\, the guys started to jam in Brian’s basement also joined by Rob. Sweat-soaked house party gigs and talent shows followed until they became a fixture on the bar circuit “before I was even old enough to drink\,” laughs Todd. As perennial outliers\, the musicians performed original material at these formative gigs\, standing out from a bevy of cover bands in the scene at the time. \nAdopting the moniker Big Head Todd & The Monsters\, they served up their independent debut Another Mayberry in 1989 and Midnight Radio in 1990 to critical acclaim\, setting the stage for their seminal 1993 breakout Sister Sweetly. Powered by staples “Broken Hearted Savior\,” “It’s Alright\,” and “Bittersweet\,” it eventually went platinum\, and they supported Plant on tour. At the time\, Variety hailed Todd as “a soulful singer and nimble lead guitarist\,” while The Los Angeles Times claimed\, “Mohr\, who has a voice like smoke\, writes great songs that incorporates blues\, folk\, rock and country\, which sounds sort of like\, well\, Big Head Todd and the Monsters.” \nThroughout the next decade\, the group presented fan favorites such as Strategem [1994] and Beautiful World [1997]. The latter yielded the cover of “Boom Boom” [feat. John Lee Hooker]\, which famously served as the theme to NCIS: New Orleans. In 2005\, they exceeded our atmosphere altogether. Friends with connections to NASA encouraged Todd to write a song for NASA\, so they ignited 2005’s “Blue Sky.” In 2011\, Big Head Todd and The Monsters played “Blue Sky” live from the middle of Mission Control to awaken the astronauts aboard the shuttle. 2017 saw them release New World Arisin’ to fan adoration and critical acclaim. Glide Magazine claimed\, “such tracks\, like most of this music\, radiate a sense of optimism and purpose ever so welcome in these fragmented times.” \nAlong the way\, the band joined the Denver Broncos on their Super Bowl victory parade\, delivering a triumphant performance to boot. Not to mention\, they’ve headlined their own cruise multiple times and introduced Rockin’ the Reef as a five-night musical extravaganza in Jewel Paradise Cove in Runaway Bay Jamaica for 2022. \nBig Head Todd and The Monsters took the stage at hallowed hometown haunt Red Rocks Amphitheatre a staggering 32 times. In June 2021\, they made a rapturous homecoming to Red Rocks for their first full capacity gig at the venue post-COVID. Chronicling the gig\, 303 Magazine described the group as “a longtime pal that has defined Colorado’s blues-rock scene for multiple decades.” \n“The Red Rocks performances have all been special to me\,” Todd goes on. “Growing up in Colorado\, I always loved going to shows there as a teenager. I’m super proud of that. The COVID year was really unique\, because we played there four times before finally getting back in front of a packed house. It meant a lot to all of us.” \nIn 2019\, the band instituted another fan favorite tradition\, by launching Monsters Music Monthly. They revealed a free song and video on a monthly basis\, including “Hoochie Coochie Man” [feat. Buddy Guy]\, “Rosalita” [feat. John Popper of Blues Traveler]\, “Remedy” [feat. Ronnie Baker Brooks]\, “Sunshine of Your Love” [feat. David Hidalgo]\, and more. Todd and Co. have notably managed to collaborate or perform with a myriad of their heroes over the years\, namely Neil Young\, B.B. King\, Allman Brothers\, John Prine\, Albert Collins\, James Cotton\, John Lee Hooker\, Hubert Sumlin\, and dozens more. \n“For a half-Asian kid growing up in Littleton\, Colorado\, it’s not likely I would’ve ever ended up being as involved in blues music as I have been\,” he observes. “It’s unbelievable we’ve gotten to play and even record with some of my idols.” \nIn the end\, Big Head Todd and The Monsters will never stop bringing crowds together. In fact\, they’ll hit the road yet again for a full-scale US tour in winter 2022 with more on the horizon. \n“If I had any message for our listeners\, it would just be\, ‘Thank you’\,” he leaves off. “We’re so fortunate to have lives making music. We’re grateful to be in the situation we’re in\, and we’re going to continue as long as we can.”

SUMMARY:Imagination Movers
DESCRIPTION:THE IMAGINATION MOVERS STORY IS THE ULTIMATE EXAMPLE OF THE POWER OF IMAGINATION. \nIn 2002\, four New Orleans friends– Rich Collins\, Scott Durbin\, Dave Poche\, and Scott “Smitty” Smith– had an idea. \nThey thought kids wanted and deserved music that spoke to them\, not down to them. So\, they started gathering after their kids’ bedtimes to write songs and brainstorm ideas about a children’s television show. \nCelebrating over 20 years of entertaining families\, you can watch the 76 episodes of their Emmy-winning “Imagination Movers” TV show on the Disney+\, or listen to the Movers’ songs\, a catalog of more than 250 original compositions\, which continue to populate the playlists of families everywhere. \nIn 2021\, 8 Pound Gorilla Records released “Happy To Be Here\,” the Imagination Movers’ five-song EP; it promptly entered the Top 10 of Billboard’s Kid Albums Chart and the song Leaves Fall Down received an honorable mention in the Great American Songwriting Contest. \nPresently\, the Movers are dropping a compilation album\, entitled Coveralls: Songs from the Imagination Movers\, featuring artists like ska-legends Mustard Plug\, Brooklyn-based Laundry Day\, Canadian-band Soul Push\, Celtic Folk rockers Carbon Leaf and others covering (or better yet reinterpreting classic Mover songs). \nAnd the Movers will be releasing its first new album since 2018 this year\, tentatively titled Blue Skies.
