SUMMARY:New Year's Eve W. Club D'Elf
DESCRIPTION:FEAT. JOHN MEDESKI (MMW) + JENNIFER HARTSWICK (TAB) + NATALIE CRESSMAN (TAB) \nTHIS SHOW WILL END AT 10:30PM. \nClub d’Elf has been helping audiences lose track of time for twenty five years with its mesmerizing synthesis of Moroccan traditional music and electronic\, dubbed-out funk. Circling about bassist/composer Mike Rivard and drummer Dean Johnston\, each Club d’Elf performance features a different line-up\, drawn from a constellation of some of the most creative improvisers from the jazz\, DJ\, rock & world music scenes of Boston\, NYC and beyond. The band’s music draws from a startlingly wide spectrum of styles\, including jazz\, hip hop\, electronica\, avant garde\, prog-rock and dub. Under the tutelage of member Brahim Fribgane (who hails from Casablanca) the band has absorbed Moroccan trance music\, which is now an essential part of the mix. Diverse audiences are drawn to Fribgane’s mesmerizing oud stylings\, and Rivard’s commanding playing of the Moroccan sintir. Trance forms the central core of the Club d’Elf aesthetic\, weaving together the band’s various influences. \nIn April 2022 the band released its latest album\, ‘You Never Know’\, which rose to #2 on the Relix chart. The record unfurls upon kaleidoscopic clouds of spiced smoke\, shifting from chopped dub-jazz through trance epics that reimagine Boston as a city of bazaars. Club \nd’Elf pay tribute to the music and musicians who have been primary influences\, with half the album being covers of gnawa\, Miles Davis\, Joe Zawinul\, Moroccan band Nass el-Ghiwane\, and Frank Zappa. The other half consists of original music inspired by Rivard’s personal journey into darkness following a near death experience in the remote jungle of the Peruvian Amazon. \n“You Never Know is a wide ranging romp\, full of serenity\, chaos\, longing\, improvisation and peerless musicianship inspired by music from India and Morocco as well as the maverick jazz of Miles Davis and Frank Zappa.” – Banning Eyre\, Afropop Worldwide \nJOHN MEDESKI \nFamed keyboardist John Medeski is not easily contained to a single project or genre; he is credited on over 300 works to date\, most notably as one third of the groundbreaking trio\, Medeski Martin & Wood. Equally comfortable behind a Steinway grand piano\, Hammond organ or any number of vintage keyboards\, Medeski is a highly sought after improviser and band leader whose projects range from work with John Zorn\, The Word (Robert Randolph\, North Mississippi Allstars)\, Phil Lesh\, Don Was\, John Scofield\, Coheed & Cambria\, Susana Baca\, Sean Lennon\, Marc Ribot\, Irma Thomas\, Blind Boys of Alabama\, Dirty Dozen Brass Band and many more. Classically trained\, Medeski grew up in Ft.Lauderdale\, FL where as a teenager he played with Jaco Pastorius before heading north to attend the New England Conservatory. He released his first solo piano record\, A Different Time\, on Sony’s Okeh Records in 2013\, and current projects include a new album in the works with his band MadSkillet (Terrence Higgins\, Kirk Joseph\, Will Bernard)\, and HUDSON (a collaboration with Jack DeJohnette\, John Scofield & Larry Grenadier)\, plus a documentary on Medeski Martin & Wood. \nJENNIFER HARTSWICK \nTrumpeter and vocalist\, Jennifer Hartswick is one of the most exciting performers in music today. She exudes confidence and joy and brings her own refreshing spirit to the stage every time she performs. Jennifer’s music is honest\, soulful and comes with a maturity far beyond her years. \nHartswick is an original member of the Trey Anastasio Band and has recorded/shared the stage with Herbie Hancock\, Phish\, Christian McBride\, Tom Petty\, Aaron Neville\, Carlos Santana\, The Rolling Stones\, Big Gigantic\, Dave Matthews and countless others. \nJennifer’s live performances are renowned as spontaneous\, joyful and contagious. Her natural charisma and sincerity shines through\, and each performance is a celebration of musical collaboration. And whether she is wailing on the trumpet or singing an intimate vocal solo\, her performance is all part of a single seamless instrument\, one that is played not only with astounding technical proficiency\, but also with sensitivity\, conviction and heart. \nNATALIE CRESSMAN \nPossessing a voice as cool and crystalline as an Alpine stream\, Natalie Cressman is a rising singer/songwriter and trombonist who draws inspiration from a vast array of deep and powerful musical currents. Auburn Whisper—her latest album with guitarist\, composer\, and vocalist Ian Faquini—not only serves as a testament to the couple’s symbiotic musical partnership but also to their resilience during unprecedented times. Written and recorded in 2020\, Auburn Whisper finds the two artists blending traditional Brazilian rhythms with modern\, expansive arrangements—reflecting on people and places they miss while discovering joy within the present moment. \nWhen she’s not performing her own music\, Cressman can be found collaborating with some of the most illustrious figures in rock\, funk\, jazz and beyond\, which have included Carlos Santana\, Phil Lesh\, Dave Matthews\, Phish\, Big Gigantic\, Greensky Bluegrass\, Escort\, Wycliffe Gordon\, Nicholas Payton\, Guinga\, Anat Cohen\, The Motet\, and Umphrey’s McGee. Her passion for groove music hasn’t diluted her love of jazz. In 2016 SFJAZZ commissioned her to develop music for a concert celebrating the legacy of jazz trombonist/arranger Melba Liston.

SUMMARY:Southside Johnny & Asbury Jukes
DESCRIPTION:MORE THAN THIRTY ALBUMS\, RELEASING TWELVE STUDIO ALBUMS SINCE 1976 \nFor Southside Johnny and the Asbury Jukes – ‘comfortable’ – has never been a word associated with their brand of raucous\, roots-tinged rock and bluesy reverie. The band has flourished with more than thirty albums\, releasing twelve studio albums since 1976….Rolling Stone named their early release “Hearts of Stone” as one of the “top 100 albums of the 70s and 80s”….thousands of live performances around the globe\, a legion of famously-dedicated and enthusiastic fans\, and a vibrant legacy of classic songs that have become “hits” to their worldwide fan base. \nSouthside Johnny and The Asbury Jukes perform in front of audiences nationwide\, touring non- stop all year long\, along with live shows in the UK\, France\, Belgium\, Germany\, Spain\, Japan\, The Netherlands and Denmark on a regular basis. \n“With the Jukes\, you’re out there every night leading this great rock n’ roll circus\, giving it everything you’ve got” says Southside Johnny Lyon\, known as The Godfather of “the New Jersey Sound” and who just this past year was inducted into the New Jersey Hall of Fame by close friend Jon Bon Jovi. \nSouthside Johnny and the Asbury Jukes emerged from the New Jersey shore scene in 1974\, and though they carried over a significant influence (and some key personnel) from Bruce Springsteen & the E Street Band\, the Jukes evolved as more of a white R&B horn band in the Memphis Stax Records tradition. Organized by singer John Lyon\, guitarist/songwriter Steve Van Zandt (who decamped for the E Street Band in 1975\, but continued to produce\, manage\, and write songs for the Jukes) and Richie Rosenberg\, the band is well known for their high-energy live shows and no-holds-barred songs\, including “I Don’t Wanna Go Home\,” “Havin’ a Party\,” “The Fever\,” “Talk to Me\,” “Trapped Again\,” and “This Time It’s For Real.” \nSouthside Johnny and the Asbury Jukes’ highly acclaimed 2015 album SOULTIME!\, which was their first new studio CD of all original material in five years at the time\, was extremely well- received by critics and fans in the U.S. and abroad. The same year\, Billboard Magazine honored the band with a special issue celebrating their 40th Anniversary. \nSOULTIME!\, released on Leroy Records\, celebrates the transformative power of ‘70s soul music and represents a return to – as Southside sings – “just letting the music take us away”. This release encapsulates everything that fans cherish about Southside Johnny and the Asbury Jukes. The pattern of horns plus rhythm – each song painted with catchy choruses\, top-notch string arrangements and gospel charged vocals – keeps on coming. \nMusic Riot in the UK proclaimed “The more you listen to it the more you realize it is a work of genius. Johnny’s voice is sublime and would melt a heart of stone.” \nWhile critics in the U.S. also raved – “I’ve been waiting for Southside Johnny to make this album for almost 40 years. It’s the best record of his entire career. If you really have soul\, no further explanation necessary” said Dave Marsh/SiriusXM Radio/E Street Channel Host. \nAnd\, “Soul music is not a genre\, it is a way of life. Southside Johnny and the Asbury Jukes keep the classic R & B clock spinning hot and forward on Soultime!\, one of their best records since they first burst out of that New Jersey night\,” praised music writer David Fricke. \nOn their New Jersey home turf\, The Aquarian Weekly said “Soultime! brings them to a completely different level and delivers genuine R&B-soaked soul right from the Jersey Shore. Oh\, and did I mention that Soultime! is the best album he’s ever recorded.” While New Jersey Arts Daily raved “Soultime! is\, indeed\, one of the most enjoyable albums of Southside Johnny and the Asbury Jukes’ long career.” \nThe CD was written and produced by Jeff Kazee and John Lyon\, and was recorded in the Jukes’ hometown of Asbury Park\, NJ. SOULTIME! features Southside Johnny on vocals and harmonica\, Jeff Kazee on keyboards and vocals\, Glenn Alexander on guitar\, bassist John Conte\, Chris Anderson on trumpet\, John Isley on saxophone\, Neal Pawley on trombone and drummer Tom Seguso. \nIn the spring of 2017\, Southside Johnny and the Asbury Jukes surprised fans by releasing their “Live From E Street” vinyl 12 inch EP\, which immediately made it onto the Billboard Magazine Blues Album Chart at #10\, also on Leroy Records. This new disc featured Southside Johnny and the Asbury Jukes’ versions of the Bruce Springsteen tracks Jack of All Trades\, Cover Me\, Murder Incorporated and Tenth Avenue Freeze-Out\, all recorded live at the Stony Pony. Only 3000 copies of this limited edition vinyl EP were pressed\, quickly becoming a collector’s item. \nSouthside Johnny’s first three albums\, I Don’t Want To Go Home\, This Time It’s for Real\, and Hearts of Stone were produced by Steven Van Zandt (E Street Band\, The Sopranos) and featured songs written by Van Zandt and Springsteen. “I Don’t Want To Go Home” became Southside Johnny’s signature song\, an evocative mixture of horn-based melodic riffs and soul-searching lyrics. \nWith a decades-long successful career\, Southside Johnny and the Asbury Jukes continue to deliver their soul-searing brand of raucous blues and R&B\, with material mined from their many albums\, featuring hits like “I Don’t Want To Go Home”\, “Love On The Wrong Side Of Town”\, “The Fever”\, “This Time It’s For Real”\, “Talk To Me” and their definitive fun-time cover of “We’re Having A Party”. The Jukes’ legendary high-energy live performances always satisfy with their classic blend of Stax-influenced R&B and gritty\, Stonesy rock and roll. \nStill tinged with the exuberant rhythm and blues feel that is the Jukes’ trademark\, and loaded with the driving sound of the legendary Jukes horn section\, Southside Johnny and the Asbury Jukes continue to expound their signature Jersey Shore sound – all for the sheer joy of it.

SUMMARY:Dawes
DESCRIPTION:Through a tapestry of warm vocals and sun-soaked guitar hooks\, Dawes have made a name for themselves for replicating the feel of the Laurel Canyon sound of the ’70s. But far from being a copy\, the quartet are something retro-inspired\, but with a chilled vibe straight out of the present. \nAfter changing their name from Simon Dawes and swapping post-punk for a more mellow folk-rock sound\, Dawes first rose to prominence in 2010 with an appearance on The Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson\, the LA-based foursome have gone on to work with some of their heroes including playing with Jackson Browne at an Occupy Wall Street event in 2012.

SUMMARY:The FIXX
DESCRIPTION:WITH KASIM SULTON ON SUPPORT \nThe FIXX has been often heralded as one of the most innovative bands to come out of the MTV era. \nInstantly recognizable\, The FIXX sound is unmistakably unique and stands out among the thousands of artists filling the airwaves. Songs such as “One Thing Leads To Another”\, “Red Skies” and “Saved By Zero” remain everyday staples in television\, films and on radio stations that continue to break new acts inspired by the era that The FIXX helped to define. The FIXX were then\, and still are now; Cy Curnin on vocals\, Rupert Greenall on keyboards\, Jamie West-Oram on guitar\, Adam Woods on drums\, and bassist Dan K. Brown. \nABOUT KASIM SULTON \nKasim is at the top of the call sheet whenever established rock artists need an anchor who can both hold down the low end and harmonize alongside the best vocalists in the business\, whether it be on the live stage or in the recording studio. (Sulton is also a top- shelf bandleader and songwriter in his own right\, having graced the Top 40 a few times himself.) Indeed\, Sulton has played with a veritable who’s who of rock royalty who continue to be broadcast all across this country’s programming dial day in and day out. In addition to having been Todd Rundgren’s go-to righthand bass player in Utopia and his various solo projects for over 45 years and counting\, Sulton has been a valued band member for artists like Meat Loaf (for whom he also served as music director for 10 years)\, Joan Jett & The Blackhearts\, Hall & Oates\, Cheap Trick\, Patty Smyth\, former Eagles guitarist Don Felder\, Cyndi Lauper and Blue Öyster Cult\, to name but a few.

SUMMARY:Al Di Meola
DESCRIPTION:THE ELECTRIC YEARS \nLIMITED NUMBER OF VIP PACKAGES AVAILABLE DURING CHECKOUT. VIP PACKAGE INCLUDES MEET & GREET DURING SOUNDCHECK \nw/ FULL BAND:\nGumbi Ortiz – percussion\nLuis Alicea – drums\nElias Tona – bass\nCarmelo Medina – second guitar\nAl Di Meola\, a bonafide living Guitar Legend inducted into the Gallery of Greats is among the top guitarists of our time. His ongoing fascination with complex rhythmic syncopation combined with provocative lyrical melodies and sophisticated harmony has been at the heart of his music throughout a celebrated career that has spanned four decades and earned him critical accolades\, four gold albums\, two platinum albums\, more than six million in record sales worldwide\, five German gold albums\, and various awards including an Honorary Doctorate Degree from Berklee College of Music\, the Honorary Miles Davis Award presented by the Montreal Jazz Festival\, a BBC Lifetime Achievement Award presented by Sir George Martin in 2008\, Hungarian Foundation for Performing Arts Lyra Award\, and numerous Grammy nominations and awards. Al is the recipient of the most prestigious guitar awards ever given\, a total of 12 awards from Guitar Player Magazine polls and as a result\, was inducted into their Gallery of Greats. \nNot only a guitar hero\, but a prolific composer\, he has amassed over 30 albums as a leader while collaborating on a dozen or so others with the likes of the fusion supergroup Return to Forever(with Chick Corea\, Stanley Clarke and Lenny White)\, the celebrated acoustic Guitar Trio featuring fellow virtuosos John McLaughlin and Paco de Lucia\, and the Rite of Strings trio with bassist Clarke and violinist Jean-Luc Ponty. And while his dazzling technique on both acoustic and electric guitars has afforded him regal status among the hordes of fretboard fanatics who regularly flock to his concerts\, the depth of Di Meola’s writing along with the soulfulness and the inherent lyricism of his guitaristic expression have won him legions of fans worldwide beyond the guitar aficionado set. \nA pioneer of blending world music and jazz\, going back to early Latin-tinged fusion outings like 1976’s Land of the Midnight Sun\, 1977’s Elegant Gypsy and 1978’s Casino\, the guitar great continues to explore the rich influence of flamenco\, tango\, Middle Eastern\, Brazilian and African music with his World Sinfonia\, an ambitious pan-global group that he formed in 1991. Their exhilarating world music fusion has been documented on such releases as 2000’s The Grande Passion (featuring the Toronto Symphony Orchestra)\, 2007’s Live in London\, 2011’s Pursuit of Radical Rhapsody and the stunning 2012 DVD\, Morocco Fantasia (recorded at the Mawazine Festival in Rabat\, Morocco and featuring special guests Said Chraibi on oud\, Abdellah Meri on violin and Tari Ben Ali on percussion). \nGrowing up in Bergenfield\, NJ with the music of The Ventures and The Beatles\, Di Meola naturally gravitated to guitar as a youngster and by his early teens was already an accomplished player. Attaining such impressive skills at such a young age didn’t come easy for Al\, but rather was the result of focused dedication and intensive periods of woodshedding between his junior and senior years in high school. “I used to practice the guitar all night after school and once in college\, 6 – 8 hours per day” he told Down Beat. “And I was trying to find myself\, or find the kind of music that suited where I was going with the guitar.” \nHis earliest role models in jazz included guitarists Tal Farlow and Kenny Burrell. But when he discovered Larry Coryell\, whom Al would later dub “The Godfather of Fusion\,” he was taken with \nthe guitarist’s unprecedented blending of jazz\, blues and rock into one seamless vocabulary on the instrument. “I used to ride the bus from New Jersey to see him at little clubs in Greenwich Village\,” he recalls. “Wherever he was playing\, I’d be there.” In 1972\, Al enrolled at the Berklee College of Music in Boston and by the second semester there began playing in a fusion quartet led by keyboardist Barry Miles. When a gig tape of that band was later passed on to Chick Corea by a friend of Al’s in 1974\, the 19-year-old guitarist was tapped to join Corea’s fusion supergroup Return to Forever. After three landmark recordings with Return to Forever — 1974’s Where Have I Known You Before\, 1975’s Grammy Award winning No Mystery and 1976’s Romantic Warrior — the group disbanded and Al subsequently started up his career as a solo artist. His 1976 debut as a leader\, Land of the Midnight Sun\, was a blazing showcase of his signature chops and Latintinged compositions that featured a stellar cast including drummers Steve Gadd and Lenny White\, bassist Anthony Jackson and Jaco Pastorius\, keyboardists Jan Hammer\, Barry Miles and Chick Corea and percussionist Mingo Lewis. Over the course of six more albums with Columbia Records – Elegant Gypsy\, Casino\, Splendido Hotel\, Electric Rendezvous\, Tour De Force and Scenario – Al established himself as an influential force in contemporary music. 1980 marked the triumph of the acoustic guitar trio with Paco De Lucia and John McLaughlin. Their debut recording on Columbia Records\, Friday Night in San Francisco\, became a landmark recording that surpassed the four million mark in sales. The three virtuosos in the trio toured together from 1980 through 1983\, releasing the studio album Passion\, Grace & Fire in 1982. In 1995\, they reunited for a third recording\, Guitar Trio\, followed by another triumphant world tour. \nIn early 1996\, Di Meola formed a new trio with the violinist Jean-Luc Ponty and RTF bandmate Stanley Clarke called The Rite of Strings. Their self-titled debut was released in 1995. Di Meola subsequently recorded with the likes of opera superstar Luciano Pavarotti\, pop stars Paul Simon\, classical guitarist Manuel Barrueco\, and Italian pop star Pino Daniele. Over the course of his career\, he has also worked and recorded with Phil Collins\, Carlos Santana\, Steve Winwood\, Wayne Shorter\, Tony Williams\, Herbie Hancock\, Gonzalo Rubalcaba\, Milton Naciemento\, Egberto Gismonti\, Stevie Wonder\, Les Paul\, Jimmy Page\, Steve Vai\, Frank Zappa and Cuban pianist Gonzalo Rubalcaba. \nDi Meola’s 2013 release “All Your Life” recorded at Abbey Road Studios was an acoustic tour de force that had him revisiting the music of a seminal influence – The Beatles. “I really credit the Beatles for the reason why I play guitar\,” he says. “That was a major catalyst for me to want to learn music\, so their impact was pretty strong.” A virtual one-man show of virtuosity\, it features the guitar great interpreting 14familiar Beatles tunes in the stripped-down setting of strictly acoustic guitar. \nIn 2015 he released Elysium\, which finds the guitar great blending the lush tones of his nylon string Conde Hermanos acoustic prototype model and a ’71 Les Paul electric (his Return to Forever and Elegant Gypsy axe) in a collection of songs that are at once invigorating and alluring. “It represents a new composition phase for me\, whereby the writing became\, in a sense\, my therapy during a challenging personal transition in my life\,” he said. In the same year he was honored as the 22nd recipient of the Montreal Jazz Festival’s Miles Davis Award\, created in 1994 to honor a great international jazz musician for the entire body of his or her work and for that musician’s influence in regenerating the jazz idiom. \n2018 marked a new era for Al Di Meola: His first of six signed projects with German record label Ear Music\, “OPUS” was released in March. The Grammy award winning virtuoso says: “With \nOpus I wanted to further my compositional skills as I think that the evolution of this part of my persona has labelled me more composer/guitarist than guitarist/composer. For the first time in my life\, I have written music being happy\, I’m in a wonderful relationship with my wife\, I have a baby girl and a beautiful family that inspires me every day. I believe it shows in the music.” \nA retrospective of Al Di Meola’s nearly 50 year acclaimed career is expressed through his latest Ear Music release of March 2020 “ACROSS THE UNIVERSE” with his virtuosic arrangements and creative interpretations of 14 Beatles songs with a larger scale full production featuring orchestrations balanced with lavish acoustic arrangements and electric guitar. \nCurrent work includes an autobiography and a new solo guitar record of 13 brand new compositions. Al is also very proud to announce the upcoming April 2022 release of “Saturday Night in San Francisco” from the 1980 tour of the Guitar Trio with John McLaughlin and the late Paco de Lucia.

SUMMARY:Better Than Ezra
DESCRIPTION:The best songs\, records\, and bands transport you back to the first moment you heard them each and every time they play. Whether you caught a house party gig after Better Than Ezra formed in 1988 at Louisiana State University\, heard “Good” on the radio once it hit #1 in 1995\, became a fan following Taylor Swift’s famous cover of “Breathless” in 2010\, or saw them headlining sheds in 2018\, you most likely never forgot that initial introduction to the New Orleans quartet founded by Kevin Griffin [lead vocals\, guitar\, piano] and Tom Drummond [bass\, backing vocals]. Those hummable melodies\, unshakable guitar riffs\, and confessional lyrics quietly cemented the group as an enduring force in rock music. How many acts can boast being the inspiration of a classic Saturday Night Live skit? Very few. Named one of the top “100 Greatest Alternative Artists of All Time” by Billboard\, Better Than Ezra released their last single “Grateful” in 2018 and are currently in the studio working on new music.

SUMMARY:Railroad Earth
DESCRIPTION:For over two decades\, Railroad Earth has captivated audiences with gleefully unpredictable live shows and eloquent and elevated studio output. \nThe group introduced its signature sound on 2001’s The Black Bear Sessions. Between selling out hallowed venues such as Red Rocks Amphitheatre in Morrison\, CO\, they’ve launched the longstanding annual Hangtown Music Festival in Placerville\, CA and Hillberry: The Harvest Moon Festival in Ozark\, AR—both running for a decade-plus. Sought after by legends\, the John Denver Estate tapped them to put lyrics penned by the late John Denver to music on the 2019 vinyl EP\, Railroad Earth: The John Denver Letters. Beyond tallying tens of millions of streams\, the collective have earned widespread critical acclaim from David Fricke of Rolling Stone\, American Songwriter\, Glide Magazine\, and NPR who assured\, “Well-versed in rambling around\, as you might expect from a band named after a Jack Kerouac poem\, the New Jersey-built jam-grass engine Railroad Earth has let no moss grow under its rustic wheels.”

SUMMARY:What We All Can Do About Gun Control: A Discussion With Leading Activists
DESCRIPTION:Gun violence and gun laws in the United States have a relationship full of contradictions. In the aftermath of mass shootings\, most legislation that is passed increases the ease of purchasing guns and ammunition\, instead of restricting it. Mass shootings create the most discussion and debate\, yet the majority of gun-related fatalities are suicides. \nWhy are we in such a politicized\, dangerous\, and misunderstood cycle of debate around gun laws? What does it mean for our North Shore community? Most importantly: what can we do about gun control? \nIf you’ve ever felt frustrated\, discouraged\, or confused by the gun law debate\, join leading activists for an evening of learning and action-oriented conversation. \nCo-sponsored by Leading Ladies\, the evening will feature a panel discussion with John Rosenthal\, co-founder of Stop Handgun Violence; Rebecca O’Brien from Moms Demand Action; Marjorie C. Decker\, Massachusetts state representative; and Emily Rubio\, a representative from March for Our Lives\, the organization founded by David Hogg\, a survivor of the Parkland\, Florida school massacre. \nAs always\, the conversation will be open to attendees so bring your questions! \nSPEAKERS & PANELISTS\nDavid Hogg (presenting virtually) Thrust into the world of activism by the largest school shooting in American history\, Parkland survivor David Hogg has become one of the most compelling voices of his generation. His call to “get over politics and get something done” challenges Americans to stand up\, speak out and work to elect morally just leaders\, regardless of party affiliation. Passionate in his advocacy to end gun violence\, David’s mission of increasing voter participation\, civic engagement and activism embraces a range of issues through his organization March for Our Lives. \nJohn Rosenthal co-founded Stop Handgun Violence nearly 30 years ago in 1994. He is a responsible gun owner\, a philanthropist and the president of the real estate development firm Meredith Management. \nMassachusetts State Representative Marjorie Decker has successfully filed and championed legislation that addresses gun safety (extreme risk protection order or “red flag” law); significantly expanded programming\, training\, and resources for addressing behavioral health for adolescents while also addressing the barriers to care and coverage for patients in need of behavioral healthcare. Her list of legislative accomplishments includes passing legislation that bans toxic flame retardants\, increases access to behavioral health services\, protects reproductive rights\, and addresses climate change. She has been a leader of expungement reform for adolescents\, has secured over $40 million in funding for resources serving victims of violence when the federal cut Massachusetts off from critical funds. Some other notable legislation that has passed includes eliminating the punitive cap on assistance for families living in poverty and leading the charge to secure increases in cash grants for the first time in over 20 years for seniors\, children\, and individuals with disabilities who live in poverty. \nRebecca O’Brien Moms Demand Action for Gun Sense in America is the largest grassroots organization in America fighting for public safety measures that can protect people from gun violence. A mother of 4 children Becc was inspired to join Moms Demand Action having seen the impact on her own family. In 1980 her step-father survived being shot 4 times in a robbery. Becc joined Moms as an Event’s Lead in January of 2018. Moving onto becoming the North Shore Local Group Lead. Now she is the North Shore Legislative Lead and heads the statewide MA-CALLTogether Team. \nEmily Rubio currently serves as March For Our Lives’ social media manager and focuses on social strategy and creative design. She has been with the organization for over a year and a half\, and worked on a variety of big wins for the gun violence prevention movement– on the ground and plugged in across the nation. Emily works with MFOL chapters all across the country\, amplifying their state work and federal wins that have been youth-powered\, and working to put young people of color and all identities on the map through social strategy and viral content. \nMODERATOR \nElizabeth Kilcoyne\, MPA\, is a writer\, campaign coach\, and lives on the North Shore of Boston. She served as a Select-person 2004-2010 in Ipswich\, MA\, served 18 years as adjunct faculty at Suffolk University and retired Deputy Comptroller for Massachusetts. Elizabeth managed Representative Kristin Kassner’s 2022 campaign in the Second Essex District\, when Kristin won by one vote. Elizabeth believes that in order to improve gun safety\, abortion access\, and equality for all people\, we must elect legislators who support these issues.

SUMMARY:Lyle Lovett and Leo Kottke: In Conversation And Song
DESCRIPTION:LYLE LOVETT \nA singer\, composer\, and actor\, Lyle Lovett has broadened the definition of American music in a career that spans 14 albums. Coupled with his gift for storytelling\, the Texas-based musician fuses elements of country\, swing\, jazz\, folk\, gospel\, and blues in a convention-defying manner that breaks down barriers. \nWhether touring as a ‘Duo’ or with his ‘Acoustic Group’ or his ‘Large Band\,’ Lovett’s live performances show not only the breadth of this Texas legend’s deep talents\, but also the diversity of his influences\, making him one of the most compelling and captivating musicians in popular music. \nSince his self-titled debut in 1986\, Lyle Lovett has evolved into one of music’s most vibrant and iconic performers. Among his many accolades\, besides the four Grammy Awards\, he was given the Americana Music Association’s inaugural Trailblazer Award\, and was named Texas State Musician. \nHis works\, rich and eclectic\, are some of the most beloved of any artist working today. \nLEO KOTTKE \nAcoustic guitarist Leo Kottke was born in Athens\, Georgia\, but left town after a year and a half. Raised in 12 different states\, he absorbed a variety of musical influences as a child\, flirting with both violin and trombone\, before abandoning Stravinsky for the guitar at age 11.After adding a love for the country-blues of Mississippi John Hurt to the music of John Phillip Sousa and Preston Epps\, Kottke joined the Navy underage\, to be underwater\, and eventually lost some hearing shooting at lightbulbs in the Atlantic while serving on the USS Halfbeak\, a diesel submarine. \nKottke had previously entered college at the U of Missouri\, dropping out after a year to hitchhike across the country to South Carolina\, then to New London and into the Navy\, with his twelve string. “The trip was not something I enjoyed\,” he has said\, “I was broke and met too many interesting people.” \nDischarged in 1964\, he settled in the Twin Cities area and became a fixture at Minneapolis’ Scholar Coffeehouse\, which had been home to Bob Dylan and John Koerner. He issued his 1968 recording debut LP Twelve String Blues\, recorded on a Viking quarter-inch tape recorder\, for the Scholar’s tiny Oblivion label. (The label released one other LP by The Langston Hughes Memorial Eclectic Jazz Band.) \nAfter sending tapes to guitarist John Fahey\, Kottke was signed to Fahey’s Takoma label\, releasing what has come to be called the Armadillo record. Fahey and his manager Denny Bruce soon secured a production deal for Kottke with Capitol Records. \nKottke’s 1971 major-label debut\, “Mudlark\,” positioned him somewhat uneasily in the singer/songwriter vein\, despite his own wishes to remain an instrumental performer. Still\, despite arguments with label heads as well as with Bruce\, Kottke flourished during his tenure on Capitol\, as records like 1972’s “Greenhouse” and 1973’s live “My Feet Are Smiling” and “Ice Water” found him branching out with guest musicians and honing his guitar technique. \nWith 1975’s Chewing Pine\, Kottke reached the U.S. Top 30 for the second time; he also gained an international following thanks to his continuing tours in Europe and Australia. \nHis collaboration with Phish bassist Mike Gordon\, “Clone\,” caught audiences’ attention in 2002. Kottke and Gordon followed with a recording in the Bahamas called “Sixty Six Steps\,” produced by Leo’s old friend and Prince producer David Z. \nKottke has been awarded two Grammy nominations; a Doctorate in Music Performance by the Peck School of Music at the U of Wisconsin\, Milwaukee; and a Certificate of Significant Achievement in Not Playing the Trombone from the U of Texas at Brownsville with Texas Southmost College.

Spoken word poet. Actor. Author. DJ. Is there anything this guy can’t do?” TV Guide has more concisely called him a “Renaissance Man” but if Henry Rollins could be reduced to a single word\, that word would undoubtedly be “workaholic.” When he’s not traveling\, Rollins prefers a to keep a relentless schedule full of work\, with gigs as an actor\, author\, DJ\, voice-over artist and TV show host to name a few of the roles that keep his schedule full. Rollins has toured the world as a spoken word artist\, as frontman for both Rollins Band and Black Flag and as a solitary traveler with insatiable curiosity\, favoring road-less-traveled locales in places such as Nepal\, Sri Lanka\, Siberia\, North Korea\, South Sudan and Iran.
