SUMMARY:What We All Can Do About Gun Control: A Discussion With Leading Activists
DESCRIPTION:Gun violence and gun laws in the United States have a relationship full of contradictions. In the aftermath of mass shootings\, most legislation that is passed increases the ease of purchasing guns and ammunition\, instead of restricting it. Mass shootings create the most discussion and debate\, yet the majority of gun-related fatalities are suicides. \nWhy are we in such a politicized\, dangerous\, and misunderstood cycle of debate around gun laws? What does it mean for our North Shore community? Most importantly: what can we do about gun control? \nIf you’ve ever felt frustrated\, discouraged\, or confused by the gun law debate\, join leading activists for an evening of learning and action-oriented conversation. \nCo-sponsored by Leading Ladies\, the evening will feature a panel discussion with John Rosenthal\, co-founder of Stop Handgun Violence; Rebecca O’Brien from Moms Demand Action; Marjorie C. Decker\, Massachusetts state representative; and Emily Rubio\, a representative from March for Our Lives\, the organization founded by David Hogg\, a survivor of the Parkland\, Florida school massacre. \nAs always\, the conversation will be open to attendees so bring your questions! \nSPEAKERS & PANELISTS\nDavid Hogg (presenting virtually) Thrust into the world of activism by the largest school shooting in American history\, Parkland survivor David Hogg has become one of the most compelling voices of his generation. His call to “get over politics and get something done” challenges Americans to stand up\, speak out and work to elect morally just leaders\, regardless of party affiliation. Passionate in his advocacy to end gun violence\, David’s mission of increasing voter participation\, civic engagement and activism embraces a range of issues through his organization March for Our Lives. \nJohn Rosenthal co-founded Stop Handgun Violence nearly 30 years ago in 1994. He is a responsible gun owner\, a philanthropist and the president of the real estate development firm Meredith Management. \nMassachusetts State Representative Marjorie Decker has successfully filed and championed legislation that addresses gun safety (extreme risk protection order or “red flag” law); significantly expanded programming\, training\, and resources for addressing behavioral health for adolescents while also addressing the barriers to care and coverage for patients in need of behavioral healthcare. Her list of legislative accomplishments includes passing legislation that bans toxic flame retardants\, increases access to behavioral health services\, protects reproductive rights\, and addresses climate change. She has been a leader of expungement reform for adolescents\, has secured over $40 million in funding for resources serving victims of violence when the federal cut Massachusetts off from critical funds. Some other notable legislation that has passed includes eliminating the punitive cap on assistance for families living in poverty and leading the charge to secure increases in cash grants for the first time in over 20 years for seniors\, children\, and individuals with disabilities who live in poverty. \nRebecca O’Brien Moms Demand Action for Gun Sense in America is the largest grassroots organization in America fighting for public safety measures that can protect people from gun violence. A mother of 4 children Becc was inspired to join Moms Demand Action having seen the impact on her own family. In 1980 her step-father survived being shot 4 times in a robbery. Becc joined Moms as an Event’s Lead in January of 2018. Moving onto becoming the North Shore Local Group Lead. Now she is the North Shore Legislative Lead and heads the statewide MA-CALLTogether Team. \nEmily Rubio currently serves as March For Our Lives’ social media manager and focuses on social strategy and creative design. She has been with the organization for over a year and a half\, and worked on a variety of big wins for the gun violence prevention movement– on the ground and plugged in across the nation. Emily works with MFOL chapters all across the country\, amplifying their state work and federal wins that have been youth-powered\, and working to put young people of color and all identities on the map through social strategy and viral content. \nMODERATOR \nElizabeth Kilcoyne\, MPA\, is a writer\, campaign coach\, and lives on the North Shore of Boston. She served as a Select-person 2004-2010 in Ipswich\, MA\, served 18 years as adjunct faculty at Suffolk University and retired Deputy Comptroller for Massachusetts. Elizabeth managed Representative Kristin Kassner’s 2022 campaign in the Second Essex District\, when Kristin won by one vote. Elizabeth believes that in order to improve gun safety\, abortion access\, and equality for all people\, we must elect legislators who support these issues.

SUMMARY:Lyle Lovett and Leo Kottke: In Conversation And Song
DESCRIPTION:LYLE LOVETT \nA singer\, composer\, and actor\, Lyle Lovett has broadened the definition of American music in a career that spans 14 albums. Coupled with his gift for storytelling\, the Texas-based musician fuses elements of country\, swing\, jazz\, folk\, gospel\, and blues in a convention-defying manner that breaks down barriers. \nWhether touring as a ‘Duo’ or with his ‘Acoustic Group’ or his ‘Large Band\,’ Lovett’s live performances show not only the breadth of this Texas legend’s deep talents\, but also the diversity of his influences\, making him one of the most compelling and captivating musicians in popular music. \nSince his self-titled debut in 1986\, Lyle Lovett has evolved into one of music’s most vibrant and iconic performers. Among his many accolades\, besides the four Grammy Awards\, he was given the Americana Music Association’s inaugural Trailblazer Award\, and was named Texas State Musician. \nHis works\, rich and eclectic\, are some of the most beloved of any artist working today. \nLEO KOTTKE \nAcoustic guitarist Leo Kottke was born in Athens\, Georgia\, but left town after a year and a half. Raised in 12 different states\, he absorbed a variety of musical influences as a child\, flirting with both violin and trombone\, before abandoning Stravinsky for the guitar at age 11.After adding a love for the country-blues of Mississippi John Hurt to the music of John Phillip Sousa and Preston Epps\, Kottke joined the Navy underage\, to be underwater\, and eventually lost some hearing shooting at lightbulbs in the Atlantic while serving on the USS Halfbeak\, a diesel submarine. \nKottke had previously entered college at the U of Missouri\, dropping out after a year to hitchhike across the country to South Carolina\, then to New London and into the Navy\, with his twelve string. “The trip was not something I enjoyed\,” he has said\, “I was broke and met too many interesting people.” \nDischarged in 1964\, he settled in the Twin Cities area and became a fixture at Minneapolis’ Scholar Coffeehouse\, which had been home to Bob Dylan and John Koerner. He issued his 1968 recording debut LP Twelve String Blues\, recorded on a Viking quarter-inch tape recorder\, for the Scholar’s tiny Oblivion label. (The label released one other LP by The Langston Hughes Memorial Eclectic Jazz Band.) \nAfter sending tapes to guitarist John Fahey\, Kottke was signed to Fahey’s Takoma label\, releasing what has come to be called the Armadillo record. Fahey and his manager Denny Bruce soon secured a production deal for Kottke with Capitol Records. \nKottke’s 1971 major-label debut\, “Mudlark\,” positioned him somewhat uneasily in the singer/songwriter vein\, despite his own wishes to remain an instrumental performer. Still\, despite arguments with label heads as well as with Bruce\, Kottke flourished during his tenure on Capitol\, as records like 1972’s “Greenhouse” and 1973’s live “My Feet Are Smiling” and “Ice Water” found him branching out with guest musicians and honing his guitar technique. \nWith 1975’s Chewing Pine\, Kottke reached the U.S. Top 30 for the second time; he also gained an international following thanks to his continuing tours in Europe and Australia. \nHis collaboration with Phish bassist Mike Gordon\, “Clone\,” caught audiences’ attention in 2002. Kottke and Gordon followed with a recording in the Bahamas called “Sixty Six Steps\,” produced by Leo’s old friend and Prince producer David Z. \nKottke has been awarded two Grammy nominations; a Doctorate in Music Performance by the Peck School of Music at the U of Wisconsin\, Milwaukee; and a Certificate of Significant Achievement in Not Playing the Trombone from the U of Texas at Brownsville with Texas Southmost College.

SUMMARY:Henry Rollins: Good To See You
DESCRIPTION:LIMITED NUMBER OF VIP PACKAGES AVAILABLE DURING CHECKOUT \nPLEASE NOTE: YOU MUST PURCHASE A SEAT TICKET SEPARATELY IN ORDER TO ATTEND THE MEET & GREET EXPERIENCE.\nUpgrade includes: \nEarly entry into the venue (only for GA shows)\nExclusive meet & greet with Henry Rollins\nPersonal photograph with Henry Rollins\nAccess to an intimate post show Q&A\nOfficial meet & greet laminate; autographed by Henry Rollins\nVery limited availability\nIn describing Henry Rollins\, the tendency is to try to squeeze as many labels as possible into a single sentence. “Rollins is many things\,” says The Washington Post\, “diatribist\, confessor\, provocateur\, humorist\, even motivational speaker…his is an enthusiastic and engaging chatter.” Entertainment Weekly’s list includes “Punk Rock icon. Spoken word poet. Actor. Author. DJ. Is there anything this guy can’t do?” TV Guide has more concisely called him a “Renaissance Man” but if Henry Rollins could be reduced to a single word\, that word would undoubtedly be “workaholic.” When he’s not traveling\, Rollins prefers a to keep a relentless schedule full of work\, with gigs as an actor\, author\, DJ\, voice-over artist and TV show host to name a few of the roles that keep his schedule full. Rollins has toured the world as a spoken word artist\, as frontman for both Rollins Band and Black Flag and as a solitary traveler with insatiable curiosity\, favoring road-less-traveled locales in places such as Nepal\, Sri Lanka\, Siberia\, North Korea\, South Sudan and Iran.

DESCRIPTION:In true Texas fashion\, four-time Grammy-winner Jimmie Vaughan has helped breathe new life into the music that has been his lifeline all these decades\, becoming a hero to those who cherish America’s real gift to musical history. \n“When I talk about country and blues\, they’re the same thing\,” Jimmie Vaughan says. “Muddy Waters and Hank Williams\, Webb Pierce and Jimmy Reed. When I was a kid\, I didn’t understand the difference. Everybody was always asking me\, ‘Why do you want to play blues? Why don’t you play country?’ But I would listen to the country guys and they would be doing a Jimmy Reed song. They’re playing the same lick. And Ray Charles\, Little Milton\, Guitar Junior\, Lonnie Brooks\, B.B. King–they all did country songs. Is Bob Wills country blues or jazz? And the answer is\, it’s American music. I’m tired of trying to pigeonhole everything. I want to bring it together; it comes from the same place.” \nAs a young teenager in Oak Cliff\, Texas\, his father told him to take guitar lessons if he wanted to really learn the instrument. But when Vaughan’s teacher told the guitar student it wasn’t going to work because the student “was too far gone” to learn from the lesson books\, Jimmie Vaughan knew he was on his own. Which was perfect for him\, because the blues would be his teacher for life. For those who find themselves living inside this true American music\, it becomes a way of life\, and a musical force to follow forever. \nJimmie Vaughan became possessed by his instrument while listening to the blues on the Black radio station in Dallas\, and it has been that way ever since. When something this strong takes over\, there is no way out—the pursuit just keeps going deeper. \nJimmie Vaughan has been playing the blues he hears in his head and feels in his heart for over a half-century. \nWhen he first heard songs like Phil Upchurch’s “You Can’t Sit Down\,” The Nightcaps’ “Wine\, Wine\, Wine” and B.B. King’s many hit songs in the early 1960s\, he knew he had found his music. And ever since then\, it’s been a constant quest to play the blues\, whether it was in early 1970s Austin bands like Storm and then the Fabulous Thunderbirds\, or later with brother Stevie Ray Vaughan on their FAMILY STYLE album\, and on his own releases throughout the 1990s and in 2001. \nThen the solo albums stopped\, until in 2010\, Vaughan had an idea to start recording The Great American Blues Songbook. He assembled the kind of band most musicians can only dream about\, and began recording his dream set list at Top Hat and Wire Studios in Austin. Never one to back down from a great idea\, in 2011 Vaughan and band went back into the same studio and recorded a second collection of some of his favorite songs\, zeroing in on that music’s ability to light a fuse wherever it was heard. \nLast fall\, to help celebrate the 10-year anniversary of the first of the BLUES\, BALLADS AND FAVOURITES albums\, THE PLEASURE’S ALL MINE compiled both albums as a collection\, and was released alongside a Vinyl reissue of 2016’s JIMMIE VAUGHAN TRIO featuring Mike Flanigin LIVE AT C-BOY’S release\, which featured songs recorded at the venerable Austin nightspot that Vaughan and crew call home when they are in town. \nIn 2019\, his newest release\, BABY\, PLEASE COME HOME brought him back into the spotlight with yet another Grammy nomination\, and a Blues Foundation Award for Best Male Artist. \nThis year\, he celebrates his life in the blues and on the road with THE JIMMIE VAUGHAN STORY\, a special limited-edition box set and book including over 200 photos covering his life and the breadth of his remarkable career. And yet\, Vaughan still feels like he is just getting started\, devoted to making sure he is able to give back to the music that has given him so much. The blues is in Jimmie Vaughan’s blood\, has been there since the start\, and will stay there forever.

SUMMARY:Herbie Hancock
DESCRIPTION:Now in the sixth decade of his professional life\, Herbie Hancock remains where he has always been: at the forefront of world culture\, technology\, business and music. In addition to being recognized as a legendary pianist and composer\, Herbie Hancock has been an integral part of every popular music movement since the 1960’s. As a member of the Miles Davis Quintet that pioneered a groundbreaking sound in jazz\, he also developed new approaches on his own recordings\, followed by his work in the 70s — with record-breaking albums such as “Headhunters” — that combined electric jazz with funk and rock in an innovative style that continues to influence contemporary music. “Rockit” and “Future Shock” marked Hancock’s foray into electronic dance sounds; during the same period he also continued to work in an acoustic setting with V.S.O.P.\, which included ex-Miles Davis bandmates Wayne Shorter\, Ron Carter\, and Tony Williams. \nHancock received an Academy Award for his Round Midnight film score and 14 Grammy Awards\, including Album Of The Year for “River: The Joni Letters\,” and two 2011 Grammy Awards for the recently released globally collaborative CD\, “The Imagine Project.” Many of his compositions\, including “Canteloupe Island\,” “Maiden Voyage\,” “Watermelon Man” and “Chameleon\,” are modern standards.. \nHancock serves as Creative Chair for Jazz for the Los Angeles Philharmonic Association and as Institute Chairman of the Herbie Hancock Institute of Jazz. He is a founder of The International Committee of Artists for Peace (ICAP)\, and was recently given the “Commandeur des Arts et des Lettres” by French Prime Minister Francois Fillon. In 2011 Hancock was named a UNESCO Goodwill Ambassador by UNESCO Director-General Irina Bokova\, and in December of 2013\, received a Kennedy Center Honor. In 2014 he was was named the 2014 Norton Professor Of Poetry at Harvard University\, completing his lectures series\, “The Ethics Of Jazz\,” as part of the Charles Eliot Norton Lecture Series for a period of six weeks. His memoirs\, Herbie Hancock: Possibilities\, were published by Viking in 2014\, and in February 2016 he was awarded the Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award. A member of The American Academy of Arts and Sciences\, Hancock is currently in the studio at work on a new album.

SUMMARY:Samantha Fish ft. Jesse Dayton & Eric Johanson
DESCRIPTION:The first-ever collaborative album from Samantha Fish and Jesse Dayton\, Death Wish Blues is a body of work born from a shared passion for pushing the limits of blues music. As one of the most dynamic forces in the blues world today\, Fish has made her name as a multi-award-winning festival headliner who captivates crowds with her explosive yet elegant guitar work\, delivering an unbridled form of blues-rock that defies all genre boundaries. Dayton\, meanwhile\, boasts an extraordinary background that includes recording with the likes of Johnny Cash and Waylon Jennings\, touring as a guitarist for seminal punk band X\, working with Rob Zombie on the soundtracks for his iconic horror films\, and releasing a series of acclaimed solo albums. Produced by the legendary Jon Spencer of Jon Spencer Blues Explosion\, Death Wish Blues ultimately melds their eclectic sensibilities into a batch of songs both emotionally potent and wildly combustible. \nAs Fish reveals\, the making of Death Wish Blues marked the culmination of a musical connection forged in her hometown of Kansas City over a decade ago. “It was always a big deal when Jesse came through town to a play a show—we first met when I was 20\, and I kept up with him through the years\,” Fish says of the Beaumont\, Texas-bred musician. “I’d been wanting to do a collaborative project for a while and went to see Jesse perform in New Orleans\, and right away I knew he was the guy. We got together and had this vision of making something of an alt-blues record\, but it turned out to be so much more exciting and layered than I ever imagined.” \nThe follow-up to Fish and Dayton’s 2022 EP Stardust Sessions—a three-song effort featuring covers of classic tracks like Townes Van Zandt’s “I’ll Be Here In The Morning”—Death Wish Blues took shape at Applehead Recording & Production in Woodstock\, a studio situated on a 17-acre farm once home to The Band’s Rick Danko. Over the course of 10 frenetic days\, the two musicians joined forces with bassist Kendall Wind\, keyboardist Mickey Finn\, and drummer Aaron Johnston\, cutting most of the album live and unleashing a bold collision of blues\, soul\, punk\, funk\, and fantastically greasy rock-and-roll. With Fish and Dayton sharing vocal and guitar duties\, the sonic power of each track is exponentially magnified by Spencer’s production work\, endlessly tapping into the rule-breaking ingenuity that’s made him a cult hero. “Jon’s indie-rock royalty and he’s always been ahead of the game as far as moving the blues forward\,” says Dayton. “For this album we wanted to keep everything blues-based\, with a lot of inspiration from people like Albert King and Magic Sam on the lead-guitar parts\, but we also wanted to have fun with that and take it somewhere new and different and way outside our wheelhouse.” \nOne of the first songs that Fish and Dayton wrote together\, the album-opening “Death Wish” immediately established the free-flowing nature of their collaboration. “Samantha sent me that melody and I went into my writing room and started coming up with some lyrics inspired by all these true-crime documentaries I’d been watching\,” Dayton recalls. “It turned into a song about men taking advantage of women\, and I knew that Samantha could really chew on those lyrics and sing them with a lot of attitude.” Anchored by a hot-tempered vocal performance from Fish\, the result is a prime introduction to Death Wish Blues’ incendiary sound\, at turns gritty\, exhilarating\, and indelibly hypnotic. Later\, on “Riders\,” Fish and Dayton offer up a ferociously groove-heavy track built on their fiery vocal back-and-forth\, reaching a majestic frenzy in the song’s final moments. “‘Riders’ is about being musicians and troubadours and having one-night stands with whatever city you happen to be in\,” says Fish. “Every city is personified as a love interest or partner\, and in the end you just move on to whatever adventure is coming up next.” \nAlthough Death Wish Blues serves up plenty of swagger and bravado\, much of the album embodies a powerfully raw sensitivity. “As we were writing some of the love songs you hear on the record\, I really had to open up my heart to Samantha to get to the core of what we wanted to express\,” says Dayton. “It was good for me to allow myself to be that vulnerable\, and I don’t know if it’s something I would’ve been able to do when I was younger.” On “Trauma\,” Fish and Dayton spin a strangely thrilling portrait of heartbreak\, taking on a furious momentum as Dayton lays his pain and frustration exquisitely bare. Building a heady tension between its slow-burning verses and hard-hitting chorus\, “Settle for Less” unfolds as an achingly moving meditation on self-worth. “The sentiment of that song is that if you settle for anything short of what you deserve\, that’s exactly what you’re going to get\,” says Fish\, who co-wrote the track with her frequent collaborator Jim McCormick (Tim McGraw\, Trisha Yearwood). And on “No Apology\,” Death Wish Blues slips into a moment of heavy-hearted outpouring\, with Fish’s graceful yet gut-punching vocals riding the line between tender longing and unapologetic self-possession. “‘No Apology’ is about fighting with the one you love and wanting to push through and make everything okay again\,” says Fish. “It’s a love song but sort of twisted\, because that’s the only kind of love song I write.” \nAnother irresistibly soulful track\, “You Know My Heart” closes out Death Wish Blues with a spellbinding duet illuminating the pure magic of their musical chemistry. “That’s the first song that Jesse and I finished together\,” Fish points out. “He sent it to me to one morning and told me he’d woken up the night before with that melody in his head\, and we started singing it together and fleshing out the verses. It turned into a song about being far from your loved one and maybe things aren’t going the way you want\, but you know they’ll love you through your worst and see your better intentions through it all. I thought that was a really beautiful way to end the record.” \nThroughout Death Wish Blues\, Fish and Dayton let their more lighthearted side shine on tracks like “Supadupabad\,” a gloriously carefree piece of blues-funk complete with references to sipping Courvoisier from crystal cups. “That song was way out of my comfort zone\, but it felt good to get sort of silly and just have fun with it\,” says Fish. “It’s like a two-minute party\, and I don’t think I could’ve ever come up with something like that on my own.” Thanks in part to Spencer’s direction\, the recording sessions for Death Wish Blues also included such unexpected moments as building the off-kilter beat of “Dangerous People” by banging on beer cans gathered from the backyard. “What I loved about working with Jon is that we brought in a bunch of songs that we’d demoed on acoustic guitar\, and he’d go in and find a way to add all these unique parts that I never would’ve envisioned\,” says Fish. “Sometimes it was jarring at first\, but everything ended up fitting so perfectly.” Looking back on the album-making process\, Fish also notes that Spencer helped to uncover certain facets of her voice that she’d never explored before. “Jon records vocals with character; it’s about attitude rather than perfection\,” she says. “I learned a lot about taking on the character of the song\, and about singing with different inflections to really get the emotion across.” \nFor both Fish and Dayton\, the making of Death Wish Blues helped fulfill their longtime mission of opening up the blues genre to entirely new audiences. “I’ve played all kinds of music in my life\, punk and country and Americana and so much else\, and for me this was another wonderful rabbit hole to fall down\,” says Dayton. “I love that it’s coming at a moment when we’re starting to see the resurgence of rock guitar for the first time in a long time\, and I think it’s going to turn a lot of people on to a kind of music they’ve never experienced before.” Fish adds: “The main reason why I make music has always been the connection it creates with others. It’s a way to communicate with the world around me\, to tell stories that people can then take and apply to their own lives and maybe feel more understood. We had such a fun time making this album\, and I hope that it leaves everyone with the same feeling of joy that we all felt in the studio.”

During the pandemic\, in collaboration with No Kid Hungry\, he successfully introduced a collection of fine wines\, MY FIRST CRUSH\, which donates money to feed hungry children nationwide. \nCurrently working under an exclusive long term development deal with NBC/Universal television\, Shaun makes his home in the wine country of Santa Barbara with his wife\, Tracey\, their four children\, and more animals than he can count.

SUMMARY:Andrew Dice Clay: Live in Concert
DESCRIPTION:ANDREW DICE CLAY is proud to be one of America’s most controversial and outrageous comics. When he released his debut album\, Dice\, the parental advisory label simply read “Warning: This album is offensive.” \nDice’s rise to fame was nothing less than meteoric; he became the first comedian to sell out Madison Square Garden two nights in a row and was the only performer ever “Banned For Life from MTV.” \nDice has released numerous best-selling DVDs (No Apologies and Dice Rules!) and a string of multi-gold and platinum selling CDs (The Day The Laughter Died and Face Down\, Ass Up). Dice also starred in several one-hour HBO and Showtime stand-up specials including: The Diceman Cometh and Indestructible. \nOver the last few years\, Dice’s career has experienced a resurgence\, most notably when he starred to great critical acclaim alongside Cate Blanchett and Alec Baldwin in Woody Allen’s Blue Jasmine\, his recurring role on the final season of Entourage\, Martin Scorsese’s Vinyl and most recently in the award winning\, blockbuster hit\, A Star Is Born. His other notable TV credits are The Celebrity Apprentice\, where he is proud to have been the first celebrity thrown off the show and his Showtime series\, Dice. Also\, in 2015\, Simon & Schuster published Dice’s brutally honest autobiography “The Filthy Truth.” \nFor decades\, Dice continues to be a comedy force to reckon with so don’t miss this Undisputed Comedy King!

SUMMARY:Pat Metheny Side-Eye
DESCRIPTION:PAT METHENY was born in Lee’s Summit\, MO on August 12\, 1954 into a musical family. Starting on trumpet at the age of 8\, Metheny switched to guitar at age 12. By the age of 15\, he was working regularly with the best jazz musicians in Kansas City\, receiving valuable on-the bandstand experience at an unusually young age. Metheny first burst onto the international jazz scene in 1974. Over the course of his three-year stint with vibraphone great Gary Burton\, the young Missouri native already displayed his soon-to-become trademarked playing style\, which blended the loose and flexible articulation customarily reserved for horn players with an advanced rhythmic and harmonic sensibility -a way of playing and improvising that was modern in conception but grounded deeply in the jazz tradition of melody\, swing\, and the blues. With the release of his first album\, Bright Size Life (1975)\, he reinvented the traditional “jazz guitar” sound for a new generation of players. Throughout his career\, Pat Metheny has continued to redefine the genre by utilizing new technology and constantly working to evolve the improvisational and sonic potential of his instrument. Metheny’s versatility is nearly without peer on any instrument. \nOver the years\, he has performed with artists as diverse as Steve Reich to Ornette Coleman to Herbie Hancock to Jim Hall to Milton Nascimento to David Bowie. Metheny’s body of work includes compositions for solo guitar\, small ensembles\, electric and acoustic instruments\, large orchestras\, and ballet pieces and even the robotic instruments of his Orchestrion project\, while always sidestepping the limits of any one genre. \nAs well as being an accomplished musician\, Metheny has also participated in the academic arena as a music educator. At 18\, he was the youngest teacher ever at the University of Miami. At 19\, he became the youngest teacher ever at the Berklee College of Music\, where he also received an honorary doctorate more than twenty years later (1996). He has also taught music workshops all over the world\, from the Dutch Royal Conservatory to the Thelonius Monk Institute of Jazz to clinics in Asia and South America. He has also been a true musical pioneer in the realm of electronic music\, and was one of the very first jazz musicians to treat the synthesizer as a serious musical instrument. Years before the invention of MIDI technology\, Metheny was using the Synclavier as a composing tool. He also has been instrumental in the development of several new kinds of guitars such as the soprano acoustic guitar\, the 42-string Pikasso guitar\, Ibanez’s PM series jazz guitars\, and a variety of other custom instruments.

SUMMARY:Daryl Hall And the Daryl’s House Band With Special Guest Todd Rundgren
DESCRIPTION:Rock and Roll Hall of Famer Daryl Hall expanded his first solo tour in a decade. The second leg of the tour will follow the April 1 release of BeforeAfter (Legacy Recordings)\, Hall’s first-ever solo retrospective. As with the tour’s first leg\, Todd Rundgren will be a special guest on all newly announced dates. Compiled and sequenced by Hall\, BeforeAfter features thirty tracks spanning all five of his solo albums\, from 1980’s Robert Fripp-produced Sacred Songs through 2011’s Laughing Down Crying\, co-produced with longtime Hall compatriot T-Bone Wolk\, who sadly passed before the album was released. Additionally\, the collection features six never-released performances from the pathbreaking web and television series Live From Daryl’s House\, which Hall launched in 2007 with the then-novel idea of “playing with my friends and putting it up on the internet.” One of those performances includes the recently shared recording of the Eurythmics classic “Here Comes The Rain Again\,” performed with that song’s co-writer Dave Stewart. Other guests on the Live From Daryl’s House tracks include Rundgren\, Monte Montgomery and more. Taken as a whole\, BeforeAfter draws unexpected and satisfying connections between the esoteric and accessible sides of Daryl Hall’s creativity.

SUMMARY:Marx Brothers Double Feature – Horse Feathers & Duck Soup
DESCRIPTION:We’ve got a double feature for you starring the first family of madcap comedy – The Marx Brothers! First up – Groucho\, Chico\, Harpo and Zeppo go back to school in 1932’s Horse Feathers. Then\, a 90th anniversary screening of the quartet’s rise to power in 1933’s iconic Duck Soup! Two classic comedies for the price of one! \nThere will be a ten minute intermission between the two films. \nHorse Feathers sets the scene at Huxley College\, going through a morale crisis since they haven’t won a football game against their rivals in decades. New Huxley president Quincy Wagstaff (Groucho) is convinced by his son Frank (Zeppo) to hire professional football players for their team to finally give Huxley a chance at winning. Wagstaff goes to a local speakeasy to recruit the players\, but through a misunderstanding instead hires two inept bootleggers\, Baravelli (Chico) and Pinky (Harpo). \nDuck Soup takes place in the small nation of Freedonia\, where Rufus T. Firefly (Groucho) has been appointed leader to appease the wealthy Mrs. Teasdale (Margaret Dumont) into financially supporting the government. The neighboring country of Sylvania sees this as an opportunity to foment revolution in Freedonia and sends spies Chicolini (Chico) and Pinky (Harpo) to dig up dirt on Firefly. The scheme fails and leads to all-out war between the two nations\, with the four Marx Brothers on the front line. \nTotal run time approx. 2 hours 30 minutes.
