SUMMARY:Grateful Dead Meet-Up at The Movies 2023
DESCRIPTION:THE GRATEFUL DEAD RETURN TO CINEMAS WORLDWIDE FOR THE 2023 MEET–UP AT THE MOVIES.\nThere will be a screening on 6/22 and an encore screening on 6/24. \nA year after Brent Mydland’s passing\, the Grateful Dead returned to the summer stadium circuit\, playing Chicago’s Soldier Field for the first time\, with two keyboard players filling the seat Brent left vacant. \nBruce Hornsby and Vince Welnick’s presence and musical contributions reinvigorated and revitalized the Grateful Dead\, and the inspiration of the Dead’s playing was palpable. On a Saturday night in front of 60\,000 fans\, the Dead played what is often considered one of the greatest shows of the Bruce–Vince era\, up there with the second Giants Stadium show from a few days earlier. The Soldier field show was filled with favorites\, including “Shakedown Street\,” “Brown–Eyed Women\,” “Playing In The Band\,” “Terrapin Station\,” and “Dark Star.” From the original six–camera video feed that appeared on the stadium’s big screens and the pristine soundboard audio\, Chicago 6/22/91 is an incredible performance start–to–finish.

SUMMARY:Herbie Hancock
DESCRIPTION:Now in the sixth decade of his professional life\, Herbie Hancock remains where he has always been: at the forefront of world culture\, technology\, business and music. In addition to being recognized as a legendary pianist and composer\, Herbie Hancock has been an integral part of every popular music movement since the 1960’s. As a member of the Miles Davis Quintet that pioneered a groundbreaking sound in jazz\, he also developed new approaches on his own recordings\, followed by his work in the 70s — with record-breaking albums such as “Headhunters” — that combined electric jazz with funk and rock in an innovative style that continues to influence contemporary music. “Rockit” and “Future Shock” marked Hancock’s foray into electronic dance sounds; during the same period he also continued to work in an acoustic setting with V.S.O.P.\, which included ex-Miles Davis bandmates Wayne Shorter\, Ron Carter\, and Tony Williams. \nHancock received an Academy Award for his Round Midnight film score and 14 Grammy Awards\, including Album Of The Year for “River: The Joni Letters\,” and two 2011 Grammy Awards for the recently released globally collaborative CD\, “The Imagine Project.” Many of his compositions\, including “Canteloupe Island\,” “Maiden Voyage\,” “Watermelon Man” and “Chameleon\,” are modern standards.. \nHancock serves as Creative Chair for Jazz for the Los Angeles Philharmonic Association and as Institute Chairman of the Herbie Hancock Institute of Jazz. He is a founder of The International Committee of Artists for Peace (ICAP)\, and was recently given the “Commandeur des Arts et des Lettres” by French Prime Minister Francois Fillon. In 2011 Hancock was named a UNESCO Goodwill Ambassador by UNESCO Director-General Irina Bokova\, and in December of 2013\, received a Kennedy Center Honor. In 2014 he was was named the 2014 Norton Professor Of Poetry at Harvard University\, completing his lectures series\, “The Ethics Of Jazz\,” as part of the Charles Eliot Norton Lecture Series for a period of six weeks. His memoirs\, Herbie Hancock: Possibilities\, were published by Viking in 2014\, and in February 2016 he was awarded the Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award. A member of The American Academy of Arts and Sciences\, Hancock is currently in the studio at work on a new album.

SUMMARY:Samantha Fish ft. Jesse Dayton & Eric Johanson
DESCRIPTION:The first-ever collaborative album from Samantha Fish and Jesse Dayton\, Death Wish Blues is a body of work born from a shared passion for pushing the limits of blues music. As one of the most dynamic forces in the blues world today\, Fish has made her name as a multi-award-winning festival headliner who captivates crowds with her explosive yet elegant guitar work\, delivering an unbridled form of blues-rock that defies all genre boundaries. Dayton\, meanwhile\, boasts an extraordinary background that includes recording with the likes of Johnny Cash and Waylon Jennings\, touring as a guitarist for seminal punk band X\, working with Rob Zombie on the soundtracks for his iconic horror films\, and releasing a series of acclaimed solo albums. Produced by the legendary Jon Spencer of Jon Spencer Blues Explosion\, Death Wish Blues ultimately melds their eclectic sensibilities into a batch of songs both emotionally potent and wildly combustible. \nAs Fish reveals\, the making of Death Wish Blues marked the culmination of a musical connection forged in her hometown of Kansas City over a decade ago. “It was always a big deal when Jesse came through town to a play a show—we first met when I was 20\, and I kept up with him through the years\,” Fish says of the Beaumont\, Texas-bred musician. “I’d been wanting to do a collaborative project for a while and went to see Jesse perform in New Orleans\, and right away I knew he was the guy. We got together and had this vision of making something of an alt-blues record\, but it turned out to be so much more exciting and layered than I ever imagined.” \nThe follow-up to Fish and Dayton’s 2022 EP Stardust Sessions—a three-song effort featuring covers of classic tracks like Townes Van Zandt’s “I’ll Be Here In The Morning”—Death Wish Blues took shape at Applehead Recording & Production in Woodstock\, a studio situated on a 17-acre farm once home to The Band’s Rick Danko. Over the course of 10 frenetic days\, the two musicians joined forces with bassist Kendall Wind\, keyboardist Mickey Finn\, and drummer Aaron Johnston\, cutting most of the album live and unleashing a bold collision of blues\, soul\, punk\, funk\, and fantastically greasy rock-and-roll. With Fish and Dayton sharing vocal and guitar duties\, the sonic power of each track is exponentially magnified by Spencer’s production work\, endlessly tapping into the rule-breaking ingenuity that’s made him a cult hero. “Jon’s indie-rock royalty and he’s always been ahead of the game as far as moving the blues forward\,” says Dayton. “For this album we wanted to keep everything blues-based\, with a lot of inspiration from people like Albert King and Magic Sam on the lead-guitar parts\, but we also wanted to have fun with that and take it somewhere new and different and way outside our wheelhouse.” \nOne of the first songs that Fish and Dayton wrote together\, the album-opening “Death Wish” immediately established the free-flowing nature of their collaboration. “Samantha sent me that melody and I went into my writing room and started coming up with some lyrics inspired by all these true-crime documentaries I’d been watching\,” Dayton recalls. “It turned into a song about men taking advantage of women\, and I knew that Samantha could really chew on those lyrics and sing them with a lot of attitude.” Anchored by a hot-tempered vocal performance from Fish\, the result is a prime introduction to Death Wish Blues’ incendiary sound\, at turns gritty\, exhilarating\, and indelibly hypnotic. Later\, on “Riders\,” Fish and Dayton offer up a ferociously groove-heavy track built on their fiery vocal back-and-forth\, reaching a majestic frenzy in the song’s final moments. “‘Riders’ is about being musicians and troubadours and having one-night stands with whatever city you happen to be in\,” says Fish. “Every city is personified as a love interest or partner\, and in the end you just move on to whatever adventure is coming up next.” \nAlthough Death Wish Blues serves up plenty of swagger and bravado\, much of the album embodies a powerfully raw sensitivity. “As we were writing some of the love songs you hear on the record\, I really had to open up my heart to Samantha to get to the core of what we wanted to express\,” says Dayton. “It was good for me to allow myself to be that vulnerable\, and I don’t know if it’s something I would’ve been able to do when I was younger.” On “Trauma\,” Fish and Dayton spin a strangely thrilling portrait of heartbreak\, taking on a furious momentum as Dayton lays his pain and frustration exquisitely bare. Building a heady tension between its slow-burning verses and hard-hitting chorus\, “Settle for Less” unfolds as an achingly moving meditation on self-worth. “The sentiment of that song is that if you settle for anything short of what you deserve\, that’s exactly what you’re going to get\,” says Fish\, who co-wrote the track with her frequent collaborator Jim McCormick (Tim McGraw\, Trisha Yearwood). And on “No Apology\,” Death Wish Blues slips into a moment of heavy-hearted outpouring\, with Fish’s graceful yet gut-punching vocals riding the line between tender longing and unapologetic self-possession. “‘No Apology’ is about fighting with the one you love and wanting to push through and make everything okay again\,” says Fish. “It’s a love song but sort of twisted\, because that’s the only kind of love song I write.” \nAnother irresistibly soulful track\, “You Know My Heart” closes out Death Wish Blues with a spellbinding duet illuminating the pure magic of their musical chemistry. “That’s the first song that Jesse and I finished together\,” Fish points out. “He sent it to me to one morning and told me he’d woken up the night before with that melody in his head\, and we started singing it together and fleshing out the verses. It turned into a song about being far from your loved one and maybe things aren’t going the way you want\, but you know they’ll love you through your worst and see your better intentions through it all. I thought that was a really beautiful way to end the record.” \nThroughout Death Wish Blues\, Fish and Dayton let their more lighthearted side shine on tracks like “Supadupabad\,” a gloriously carefree piece of blues-funk complete with references to sipping Courvoisier from crystal cups. “That song was way out of my comfort zone\, but it felt good to get sort of silly and just have fun with it\,” says Fish. “It’s like a two-minute party\, and I don’t think I could’ve ever come up with something like that on my own.” Thanks in part to Spencer’s direction\, the recording sessions for Death Wish Blues also included such unexpected moments as building the off-kilter beat of “Dangerous People” by banging on beer cans gathered from the backyard. “What I loved about working with Jon is that we brought in a bunch of songs that we’d demoed on acoustic guitar\, and he’d go in and find a way to add all these unique parts that I never would’ve envisioned\,” says Fish. “Sometimes it was jarring at first\, but everything ended up fitting so perfectly.” Looking back on the album-making process\, Fish also notes that Spencer helped to uncover certain facets of her voice that she’d never explored before. “Jon records vocals with character; it’s about attitude rather than perfection\,” she says. “I learned a lot about taking on the character of the song\, and about singing with different inflections to really get the emotion across.” \nFor both Fish and Dayton\, the making of Death Wish Blues helped fulfill their longtime mission of opening up the blues genre to entirely new audiences. “I’ve played all kinds of music in my life\, punk and country and Americana and so much else\, and for me this was another wonderful rabbit hole to fall down\,” says Dayton. “I love that it’s coming at a moment when we’re starting to see the resurgence of rock guitar for the first time in a long time\, and I think it’s going to turn a lot of people on to a kind of music they’ve never experienced before.” Fish adds: “The main reason why I make music has always been the connection it creates with others. It’s a way to communicate with the world around me\, to tell stories that people can then take and apply to their own lives and maybe feel more understood. We had such a fun time making this album\, and I hope that it leaves everyone with the same feeling of joy that we all felt in the studio.”

SUMMARY:Pat Metheny Side-Eye
DESCRIPTION:PAT METHENY was born in Lee’s Summit\, MO on August 12\, 1954 into a musical family. Starting on trumpet at the age of 8\, Metheny switched to guitar at age 12. By the age of 15\, he was working regularly with the best jazz musicians in Kansas City\, receiving valuable on-the bandstand experience at an unusually young age. Metheny first burst onto the international jazz scene in 1974. Over the course of his three-year stint with vibraphone great Gary Burton\, the young Missouri native already displayed his soon-to-become trademarked playing style\, which blended the loose and flexible articulation customarily reserved for horn players with an advanced rhythmic and harmonic sensibility -a way of playing and improvising that was modern in conception but grounded deeply in the jazz tradition of melody\, swing\, and the blues. With the release of his first album\, Bright Size Life (1975)\, he reinvented the traditional “jazz guitar” sound for a new generation of players. Throughout his career\, Pat Metheny has continued to redefine the genre by utilizing new technology and constantly working to evolve the improvisational and sonic potential of his instrument. Metheny’s versatility is nearly without peer on any instrument. \nOver the years\, he has performed with artists as diverse as Steve Reich to Ornette Coleman to Herbie Hancock to Jim Hall to Milton Nascimento to David Bowie. Metheny’s body of work includes compositions for solo guitar\, small ensembles\, electric and acoustic instruments\, large orchestras\, and ballet pieces and even the robotic instruments of his Orchestrion project\, while always sidestepping the limits of any one genre. \nAs well as being an accomplished musician\, Metheny has also participated in the academic arena as a music educator. At 18\, he was the youngest teacher ever at the University of Miami. At 19\, he became the youngest teacher ever at the Berklee College of Music\, where he also received an honorary doctorate more than twenty years later (1996). He has also taught music workshops all over the world\, from the Dutch Royal Conservatory to the Thelonius Monk Institute of Jazz to clinics in Asia and South America. He has also been a true musical pioneer in the realm of electronic music\, and was one of the very first jazz musicians to treat the synthesizer as a serious musical instrument. Years before the invention of MIDI technology\, Metheny was using the Synclavier as a composing tool. He also has been instrumental in the development of several new kinds of guitars such as the soprano acoustic guitar\, the 42-string Pikasso guitar\, Ibanez’s PM series jazz guitars\, and a variety of other custom instruments.

SUMMARY:Daryl Hall And the Daryl’s House Band With Special Guest Todd Rundgren
DESCRIPTION:Rock and Roll Hall of Famer Daryl Hall expanded his first solo tour in a decade. The second leg of the tour will follow the April 1 release of BeforeAfter (Legacy Recordings)\, Hall’s first-ever solo retrospective. As with the tour’s first leg\, Todd Rundgren will be a special guest on all newly announced dates. Compiled and sequenced by Hall\, BeforeAfter features thirty tracks spanning all five of his solo albums\, from 1980’s Robert Fripp-produced Sacred Songs through 2011’s Laughing Down Crying\, co-produced with longtime Hall compatriot T-Bone Wolk\, who sadly passed before the album was released. Additionally\, the collection features six never-released performances from the pathbreaking web and television series Live From Daryl’s House\, which Hall launched in 2007 with the then-novel idea of “playing with my friends and putting it up on the internet.” One of those performances includes the recently shared recording of the Eurythmics classic “Here Comes The Rain Again\,” performed with that song’s co-writer Dave Stewart. Other guests on the Live From Daryl’s House tracks include Rundgren\, Monte Montgomery and more. Taken as a whole\, BeforeAfter draws unexpected and satisfying connections between the esoteric and accessible sides of Daryl Hall’s creativity.

SUMMARY:Marx Brothers Double Feature – Horse Feathers & Duck Soup
DESCRIPTION:We’ve got a double feature for you starring the first family of madcap comedy – The Marx Brothers! First up – Groucho\, Chico\, Harpo and Zeppo go back to school in 1932’s Horse Feathers. Then\, a 90th anniversary screening of the quartet’s rise to power in 1933’s iconic Duck Soup! Two classic comedies for the price of one! \nThere will be a ten minute intermission between the two films. \nHorse Feathers sets the scene at Huxley College\, going through a morale crisis since they haven’t won a football game against their rivals in decades. New Huxley president Quincy Wagstaff (Groucho) is convinced by his son Frank (Zeppo) to hire professional football players for their team to finally give Huxley a chance at winning. Wagstaff goes to a local speakeasy to recruit the players\, but through a misunderstanding instead hires two inept bootleggers\, Baravelli (Chico) and Pinky (Harpo). \nDuck Soup takes place in the small nation of Freedonia\, where Rufus T. Firefly (Groucho) has been appointed leader to appease the wealthy Mrs. Teasdale (Margaret Dumont) into financially supporting the government. The neighboring country of Sylvania sees this as an opportunity to foment revolution in Freedonia and sends spies Chicolini (Chico) and Pinky (Harpo) to dig up dirt on Firefly. The scheme fails and leads to all-out war between the two nations\, with the four Marx Brothers on the front line. \nTotal run time approx. 2 hours 30 minutes.

SUMMARY:Jaws
DESCRIPTION:After a brief hiatus\, Jaws returns to The Cabot Memorial Day weekend! \nThe body of a young woman washes up on the shores of Amity\, a beach resort island off the coast of Long Island. The corpse bears all the signs of a shark attack\, prompting new police chief Brody (Roy Scheider) to close the town’s beaches just as the summer tourist season begins to pick up. The mayor overrules Brody\, fearing a loss of tourist revenue would cripple the town. As shark sightings and attacks continue\, Ichthyologist Matt Hooper (Richard Dreyfuss) is called in from the mainland for expertise\, while a bounty placed on the shark catches the interest of local grizzled fisherman Quint (Robert Shaw). Soon\, Brody\, Hooper and Quint find themselves on the open ocean to engage in an epic battle of man vs. nature. \nRun time approx. 2 hours.

SUMMARY:The Wallflowers
DESCRIPTION:Rock ‘n’ roll is often hard to define\, or even to find\, in these fractured musical times. But to paraphrase an old saying\, you know it when you hear it. \nAnd you always hear it with the Wallflowers. For the past 30 years\, the Jakob Dylan-led act has stood as one of rock’s most dynamic and purposeful bands – a unit dedicated to and continually honing a sound that meshes timeless songwriting and storytelling with a hard-hitting and decidedly modern musical attack. That signature style has been present through the decades\, baked into the grooves of smash hits like 1996’s Bringing Down the Horse as well as more recent and exploratory fare like 2012’s Glad All Over . \nEven so\, in recent years\, Dylan – the Wallflowers’ founding singer\, songwriter and guitarist – has repeatedly stepped outside of his band\, first with a pair of more acoustic and rootsy records\, 2008’s Seeing Things and 2010’s Women + Country\, and then with the 2018 film Echo in the Canyon and the accompanying soundtrack\, which saw him collaborate with a host of artists classic and contemporary\, from Neil Young and Eric Clapton to Beck and Fiona Apple. \nBut while it’s been nine long years since we’ve heard from the group with whom he first made his mark\, the Wallflowers are silent no more. And Dylan always knew they’d return. “The Wallflowers is much of my life’s work\,” he says simply. \nPlus\, he adds with a laugh\, “It’s pretty hard to get a good band name\, so if you have one\, keep it.” \nGood band name aside\, that life’s work continues with Exit Wounds\, the brand-new Wallflowers studio offering. The collection marks the first new Wallflowers material since Glad All Over. And while the wait has been long\, the much-anticipated record finds the band’s signature sound – lean\, potent and eminently entrancing – intact\, even as Dylan surrounds himself with a fresh cast of musicians. \nWhich\, the front man is quick to point out\, is not all that unusual. “The Wallflowers has always been a vehicle for me to make great rock ‘n’ roll records\,” he says. “And sometimes the lineup that makes the record transfers over into touring\, and sometimes it doesn’t. But my intention is always to make the Wallflowers record I want to make\, using the musicians I have beside me.” \nDylan’s vision has always been the core of the Wallflower’s music. How he chooses to express that vision\, however\, is what makes a song a Wallflowers song. “I usually just let the songs tell me what kind of arrangements they need\,” he says. “And if they’re asking for full-band electric arrangements\, then that’s what the Wallflowers provide. And I knew I wanted to make a full-band electric record this time out.” \nAnd made one he has\, with one special guest on board – Shelby Lynne\, who lends her voice to three of the album’s tracks. “I hadn’t met Shelby before\, but like most people\, I’ve been a fan of hers for quite some time\,” Dylan says. “She has one of those voices that’s very uncommon\, very unique\, very rare.” \nBut there was more to their duet than just a mutual appreciation. “You can have your favorite singer come in\, but it doesn’t mean you’ll have any connection – there has to be more than that\,” \nDylan continues. “And as soon as I heard Shelby sing\, I knew we had something.” \nThat “something” is present throughout Exit Wounds\, which\, true to its title\, is an ode to people – individual and collective – that have\, to put it mildly\, been through some stuff. \n“I think everybody – no matter what side of the aisle you’re on – wherever we’re going to next\, we’re all taking a lot of exit wounds with us\,” Dylan says. “Nobody is the same as they were four years ago. That\, to me\, is what Exit Wounds signifies. And it’s not meant to be negative at all. It just means that wherever you’re headed\, even if it’s to a better place\, you leave people and things behind\, and you think about those people and those things and you carry them with you. Those are your exit wounds. And right now\, we’re all swimming in them.” \nTo be sure\, Exit Wounds is populated by scarred souls that “used to rumble\, used to roar\,” of “nobodies drinking flat beer\,” and those who’ve been “abandoned and locked out and pressed to the fire.” Throughout\, Dylan’s lyrics are specked with images of spears and swords and battle-worn flags being raised\, of wayward buses and battered ships\, riderless horses and lost planes. \nOf course\, ask Dylan what these songs are about\, and\, well\, like most practiced songwriters\, he’s not going to tell you. “I’m always a little cautious when people ask that\,” he says. “Not because it demystifies the songs\, but more because I think it’s belittling to the listener to have to be ‘told.’ I usually find that if you have to do that for someone\, you probably didn’t hit your mark.” \nThat said\, Dylan will at least acknowledge that the tracks on Exit Wounds reflect the tumultuous times in which they were written. “The climate affects how you feel\, which affects how you’re writing songs\, even if you’re not writing specifically about current events.” He turns to the late John Prine to illustrate his point. “If we still had John Prine\, I don’t think he’d be writing songs specifically about current affairs\, but he’d probably be writing songs about characters affected by current affairs. I think that’s mostly what I do.” \nAs far as Exit Wounds\, Dylan continues\, “I’m the same writer I’ve always been – I was just also writing during a time when the world felt like it was falling apart. That changes the way you address even the simplest things\, because you have panic in your mind all the time. You have anxiety. And you also have hope. And it’s all in there.” \nWhen it came to realizing these new songs on record\, Dylan assembled a backing band of musical associates – “people that I’ve wanted to play with or that I have played with through the years” – and headed into the studio under the watchful eye of producer Butch Walker. \nAs for what Butch brought to the sessions? Beyond his pedigree as an in-demand producer and first-rate singer-songwriter and musician\, he’s also\, Dylan says\, “someone I’ve known a long time\, and that was important to me. Because you go through a lot when you make records\, to be honest. When you’re young\, you’re taught that if you don’t have conflict in the studio\, then you’re probably not doing anything good. But I don’t believe that. And so it was more of a joyful experience making this record.” \nThat joyful experience extended to Dylan’s interplay with his fellow musicians. “This was not the type of thing where it’s a rotating cast and you call a different drummer for each song\, or you pull out the Rolodex and ring the local sessions guys\,” Dylan says. “The record was made as a band – the five Wallflowers.” \nAnd to Dylan\, a band\, even one with a constantly shifting lineup\, is a sacred thing. “I’ve always been a believer in collaboration\,” he says\, “and no matter who I’m playing with I’ve always tried to include them very heavily. Otherwise\, why would they be around? Because I do think bands\, whether it’s a long standing group or just five people who are working together for that one stretch of time\, make better rock ‘n’ roll records than solo artists.” \nHe laughs. “I mean\, it’s not 100 percent true\, but it’s usually true.” \nAt the end of the day\, Dylan continues\, “It’s just exciting to have guys playing in a room together. That’s how you get the one plus one equals three factor\, you know? That’s the magic.” \nFor Dylan\, Exit Wounds is the next chapter in a career devoted to chasing – and capturing – that magic. “I came up in an era of great rock ‘n’ roll bands making great music\, and it’s the way I always imagined I would do it one day\,” he says. \n“So that’s always been my vision with the Wallflowers – to be a great rock ‘n’ roll band. And I’ve worked on it for 30 years now and I still have a lot to say. It’s something I started a long time ago\, and it’s far from finished.” \nWill Dailey is an acclaimed independent recording artist\, performer\, artist advocate and sonic survivor. His sound has been described as a Venn diagram of multiple genres with a rich vintage vibe that weaves through his authentic and energetic performances. There is an artistic DIY spirit fueling all of it\, bringingin the spins\, Billboard charts\, rave reviews and Boston and New England Music Awards. All inspiring famed rock journalist Dan Aquilante to call him “the real deal”. \nHe has shared the stage and studio with Eddie Vedder\, Willie Nelson\, Roger McGuinn\, Kay Hanley\, GLove\, Steve Earle\, and Tanya Donelly. In June of 2013 he was featured on a Stephen King/John Mellencamp project produced by T Bone Burnett called Ghost Brothers Of Darkland County and\,in that same year\, also released an original song he wrote inspired by Jack Kerouac’s Tristessa. Dailey has played at Farm Aid four times alongside Neil Young\, Willie Nelson\, Dave Matthews and John Mellencamp. His 2018 album\, Golden Walker\, hit #1 on Billboards Northeast Heat seekers. The Boston Herald called the album: “A new peak” and named it an Album of the Year. \nAs venues began opening their doors post pandemic in 2022\, Dailey launched his Double Elvis/iHeartRadio produced podcast\, Sound of Our Town-that became an Apple Podcast spotlight. SOOT is a travel podcast about the music in the next town you visit: Not only where to go to hear and experience the best music and why; but what sounds shaped that city or town’s culture and why live music is so vital to our current moment and our existence. \n2022 also saw the release of two new singles “Easy to Be Around” and “Christmas\, Of Course”-whichwere featured on stations across New England (WUMB\, WXRV\, WMYV) and named Song of the Week on Boston’s AAA station\, WERS. With 2023\, comes the upcoming premiere of Season 2 of Sound of Our Town. As Dailey hits the road heal so brings with him a song that only exists in recorded form on his merch table.“Cover of Clouds” will be with him exclusively via disc man and headphones on the merch table. A limited number of fans will be able to listen to the 7 minute opus dedicated to Joni Mitchell for $10 and leave their thoughts in a book that travels along with Dailey throughout 2023.

SUMMARY:Al Di Meola
DESCRIPTION:HE ELECTRIC YEARS \nLIMITED NUMBER OF VIP PACKAGES AVAILABLE DURING CHECKOUT. VIP PACKAGE INCLUDES MEET & GREET DURING SOUNDCHECK\nw/ FULL BAND:\nGumbi Ortiz – percussion\nLuis Alicea – drums\nElias Tona – bass\nCarmelo Medina – second guitar \nAl Di Meola\, a bonafide living Guitar Legend inducted into the Gallery of Greats is among the top guitarists of our time. His ongoing fascination with complex rhythmic syncopation combined with provocative lyrical melodies and sophisticated harmony has been at the heart of his music throughout a celebrated career that has spanned four decades and earned him critical accolades\, four gold albums\, two platinum albums\, more than six million in record sales worldwide\, five German gold albums\, and various awards including an Honorary Doctorate Degree from Berklee College of Music\, the Honorary Miles Davis Award presented by the Montreal Jazz Festival\, a BBC Lifetime Achievement Award presented by Sir George Martin in 2008\, Hungarian Foundation for Performing Arts Lyra Award\, and numerous Grammy nominations and awards. Al is the recipient of the most prestigious guitar awards ever given\, a total of 12 awards from Guitar Player Magazine polls and as a result\, was inducted into their Gallery of Greats. \nNot only a guitar hero\, but a prolific composer\, he has amassed over 30 albums as a leader while collaborating on a dozen or so others with the likes of the fusion supergroup Return to Forever(with Chick Corea\, Stanley Clarke and Lenny White)\, the celebrated acoustic Guitar Trio featuring fellow virtuosos John McLaughlin and Paco de Lucia\, and the Rite of Strings trio with bassist Clarke and violinist Jean-Luc Ponty. And while his dazzling technique on both acoustic and electric guitars has afforded him regal status among the hordes of fretboard fanatics who regularly flock to his concerts\, the depth of Di Meola’s writing along with the soulfulness and the inherent lyricism of his guitaristic expression have won him legions of fans worldwide beyond the guitar aficionado set. \nA pioneer of blending world music and jazz\, going back to early Latin-tinged fusion outings like 1976’s Land of the Midnight Sun\, 1977’s Elegant Gypsy and 1978’s Casino\, the guitar great continues to explore the rich influence of flamenco\, tango\, Middle Eastern\, Brazilian and African music with his World Sinfonia\, an ambitious pan-global group that he formed in 1991. Their exhilarating world music fusion has been documented on such releases as 2000’s The Grande Passion (featuring the Toronto Symphony Orchestra)\, 2007’s Live in London\, 2011’s Pursuit of Radical Rhapsody and the stunning 2012 DVD\, Morocco Fantasia (recorded at the Mawazine Festival in Rabat\, Morocco and featuring special guests Said Chraibi on oud\, Abdellah Meri on violin and Tari Ben Ali on percussion). \nGrowing up in Bergenfield\, NJ with the music of The Ventures and The Beatles\, Di Meola naturally gravitated to guitar as a youngster and by his early teens was already an accomplished player. Attaining such impressive skills at such a young age didn’t come easy for Al\, but rather was the result of focused dedication and intensive periods of woodshedding between his junior and senior years in high school. “I used to practice the guitar all night after school and once in college\, 6 – 8 hours per day” he told Down Beat. “And I was trying to find myself\, or find the kind of music that suited where I was going with the guitar.” \nHis earliest role models in jazz included guitarists Tal Farlow and Kenny Burrell. But when he discovered Larry Coryell\, whom Al would later dub “The Godfather of Fusion\,” he was taken with \nthe guitarist’s unprecedented blending of jazz\, blues and rock into one seamless vocabulary on the instrument. “I used to ride the bus from New Jersey to see him at little clubs in Greenwich Village\,” he recalls. “Wherever he was playing\, I’d be there.” In 1972\, Al enrolled at the Berklee College of Music in Boston and by the second semester there began playing in a fusion quartet led by keyboardist Barry Miles. When a gig tape of that band was later passed on to Chick Corea by a friend of Al’s in 1974\, the 19-year-old guitarist was tapped to join Corea’s fusion supergroup Return to Forever. After three landmark recordings with Return to Forever — 1974’s Where Have I Known You Before\, 1975’s Grammy Award winning No Mystery and 1976’s Romantic Warrior — the group disbanded and Al subsequently started up his career as a solo artist. His 1976 debut as a leader\, Land of the Midnight Sun\, was a blazing showcase of his signature chops and Latintinged compositions that featured a stellar cast including drummers Steve Gadd and Lenny White\, bassist Anthony Jackson and Jaco Pastorius\, keyboardists Jan Hammer\, Barry Miles and Chick Corea and percussionist Mingo Lewis. Over the course of six more albums with Columbia Records – Elegant Gypsy\, Casino\, Splendido Hotel\, Electric Rendezvous\, Tour De Force and Scenario – Al established himself as an influential force in contemporary music. 1980 marked the triumph of the acoustic guitar trio with Paco De Lucia and John McLaughlin. Their debut recording on Columbia Records\, Friday Night in San Francisco\, became a landmark recording that surpassed the four million mark in sales. The three virtuosos in the trio toured together from 1980 through 1983\, releasing the studio album Passion\, Grace & Fire in 1982. In 1995\, they reunited for a third recording\, Guitar Trio\, followed by another triumphant world tour. \nIn early 1996\, Di Meola formed a new trio with the violinist Jean-Luc Ponty and RTF bandmate Stanley Clarke called The Rite of Strings. Their self-titled debut was released in 1995. Di Meola subsequently recorded with the likes of opera superstar Luciano Pavarotti\, pop stars Paul Simon\, classical guitarist Manuel Barrueco\, and Italian pop star Pino Daniele. Over the course of his career\, he has also worked and recorded with Phil Collins\, Carlos Santana\, Steve Winwood\, Wayne Shorter\, Tony Williams\, Herbie Hancock\, Gonzalo Rubalcaba\, Milton Naciemento\, Egberto Gismonti\, Stevie Wonder\, Les Paul\, Jimmy Page\, Steve Vai\, Frank Zappa and Cuban pianist Gonzalo Rubalcaba. \nDi Meola’s 2013 release “All Your Life” recorded at Abbey Road Studios was an acoustic tour de force that had him revisiting the music of a seminal influence – The Beatles. “I really credit the Beatles for the reason why I play guitar\,” he says. “That was a major catalyst for me to want to learn music\, so their impact was pretty strong.” A virtual one-man show of virtuosity\, it features the guitar great interpreting 14familiar Beatles tunes in the stripped-down setting of strictly acoustic guitar. \nIn 2015 he released Elysium\, which finds the guitar great blending the lush tones of his nylon string Conde Hermanos acoustic prototype model and a ’71 Les Paul electric (his Return to Forever and Elegant Gypsy axe) in a collection of songs that are at once invigorating and alluring. “It represents a new composition phase for me\, whereby the writing became\, in a sense\, my therapy during a challenging personal transition in my life\,” he said. In the same year he was honored as the 22nd recipient of the Montreal Jazz Festival’s Miles Davis Award\, created in 1994 to honor a great international jazz musician for the entire body of his or her work and for that musician’s influence in regenerating the jazz idiom. \n2018 marked a new era for Al Di Meola: His first of six signed projects with German record label Ear Music\, “OPUS” was released in March. The Grammy award winning virtuoso says: “With Opus I wanted to further my compositional skills as I think that the evolution of this part of my persona has labelled me more composer/guitarist than guitarist/composer. For the first time in my life\, I have written music being happy\, I’m in a wonderful relationship with my wife\, I have a baby girl and a beautiful family that inspires me every day. I believe it shows in the music.” \nA retrospective of Al Di Meola’s nearly 50 year acclaimed career is expressed through his latest Ear Music release of March 2020 “ACROSS THE UNIVERSE” with his virtuosic arrangements and creative interpretations of 14 Beatles songs with a larger scale full production featuring orchestrations balanced with lavish acoustic arrangements and electric guitar. \nCurrent work includes an autobiography and a new solo guitar record of 13 brand new compositions. Al is also very proud to announce the upcoming April 2022 release of “Saturday Night in San Francisco” from the 1980 tour of the Guitar Trio with John McLaughlin and the late Paco de Lucia.

SUMMARY:Doo Wop Project
DESCRIPTION:OLD SCHOOL\, NEW GENERATION\, CLASSIC DOO WOP TO MODERN HITS \nThe Doo Wop Project begins at the beginning: tracing the evolution of Doo Wop from the classic sound of five guys singing harmonies on a street corner to the biggest hits on the radio today. In their epic shows The Doo Wop Project takes audiences on a journey featuring foundational tunes from the Crests\, Belmonts and Flamingos through the vocal artistry of Smokey Robinson\, The Temptations\, and The Four Seasons all the way to DooWopified versions of modern hits from Michael Jackson\, Jason Mraz\, Maroon 5\, and Sam Smith. \nFeaturing stars from the Broadway hits Jersey Boys\, Motown: The Musical\, and A Bronx Tale\, The Doo Wop Project brings unparalleled authenticity of sound and vocal excellence to recreate—and in some cases entirely reimagine—the greatest music in American pop and rock history.
