SUMMARY:1918 H1N1 Pandemic: The Unknown Killer
DESCRIPTION:It has been just over 100 years since the 1918 H1N1 pandemic. Little is known about this tragic outbreak that infected over one third of the world’s population. This discussion will bring some awareness to the events that helped shape epidemiology and the public health care system as we know it today. What actually happened? How many died? Can it happen again? Why do so few know about this? Join us as Rich Fecteau takes us through this disturbing tale of the past and cautionary tale for the future. Sponsored by the Friends of the Beverly Public Library.

SUMMARY:Beverly and the Salem Witch Scare
DESCRIPTION:Beverly Public Library is excited to partner with Historic Beverly to welcome Michael Cormier\, author of the new play Saltonstall’s Trial (running at Beverly’s Larcom Theatre from October 17-27)\, for a presentation that will cover the infamous witch trials from a local point of view.\nBeverly’s historic connection to the witch trials is rich and complex\, and Cormier will explore the ways in which names like Hale\, Herrick\, Rootes and Tookey figured into the tragedy that took more than twenty lives and ruined countless others. This is a rare opportunity to hear the story behind the hysteria through the eyes and minds of Beverly’s forefathers.
