DESCRIPTION:The Last Waltz Celebration revisits the music and the magic of that Thanksgiving evening 50 years ago. \nOn Thanksgiving Day 1976\, The Last Waltz was held at the Winterland Ballroom in San Francisco. The Band’s farewell concert featured a who’s who of rock royalty from Bob Dylan\, Neil Young and Eric Clapton to Van Morrison\, Joni Mitchell and Ronnie Hawkins. This epic musical event was later immortalized in Martin Scorsese’s landmark film\, “The Last Waltz\,” widely considered one of the greatest concert films ever made. \nGary Solomon\, co-founder of The THE BAND Band\, was in the audience that night. “I knew that what I was seeing was not just another rock concert. It was a once in a lifetime event\,” he says. It was also a moment that years later inspired Solomon\, a professional musician\, to form his tribute band with a group of like-minded friends. “I was so blown away by the experience of being at The Last Waltz\, I wanted to tell the whole world about it” he says. “A half century later\, it’s pretty clear that I still do.” \nThe Last Waltz Celebration revisits the music and the magic of that Thanksgiving evening 50 years ago\, beginning with The THE BAND Band performing a set of The Band’s most beloved songs. After a brief intermission\, the second set opens with a multi-media tribute to The Band and The Last Waltz (where supported)\, followed by a revolving cast of musicians – many of whom lead their own critically acclaimed tribute bands – performing the songs of those guest stars featured in the original concert. On occasion\, nationally known musicians such as Tom Chapin (with the Chapin Sisters)\, Rex Fowler (of Aztec Two-Step)\, and fiddler Larry Packer(who played with The Band at The Last Waltz in 1976) have made cameo appearances to the delight of the audiences. The show culminates with the entire cast filling the stage for the grand finale. \nThe THE BAND Band is the world’s leading tribute to The Band\, having performed more than 400 shows for audiences across the United States since their founding in 2007. In 2012\, they created The Last Waltz Celebration\, with over 50 performances to date.

The songs here draw on country\, soul\, and blues to forge a sound that transcends genre and geography\, weaving together past and present into a heartwarming tapestry spanning more than forty years of sonic evolution. Though Keb’ worked with a wide variety of collaborators on the project—country legend Vince Gill produced three tracks\, while famed producer Tom Hambridge (B.B. NPR’s Mountain Stage hailed him as “one of the most decorated living blues artists\,” while The New Yorker raved that “few musicians emblematize the blues like Kevin Moore\,” and The New York Times praised “the subtle twists of his songwriting” along with his knack for “facing down desolation with a grin.” \n“I’m happy with my success and grateful for my career\,” Keb’ explains\, “but I’m still breathing and I’m still hungry. I may be about to turn 70\, but I’ve got no interest in slowing down. I’m out there going for it every single day.” \nGood To Be is proof of that. While some of the material here was written as far back as the early ’70s\, other tunes were penned just months ago in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic\, which forced Keb’ off the road for more than a full year. Working both in Nashville and in Compton\, where he recently purchased and renovated his late mother’s house\, Keb’ often found himself reflecting on the idea of home\, contemplating what it means to belong and what it takes to stay true to yourself. \n“You can’t bring an attitude to Compton\,” says Keb’\, who enlisted the famed Compton Cowboys for the “Good To Be” music video. “You can’t pose. You can’t be anything but real when you’re walking down the same streets you used to ride your bike on as a kid. In a lot of ways\, coming back there felt like it completed me.” \nOnce the songs had been assembled\, Keb’ set up shop at his home studio back in Nashville\, where he cut the bulk of the album live and in the moment. From there\, he began fleshing out the performances with horns\, strings\, backup singers\, and the record’s many special guests. Some—like Rucker and legendary Freedom Rider Rip Patton\, who at one time lived next door to Keb’ in Compton and sadly passed away before the album’s release—stopped by the studio to record in person\, while others—like Chenoweth\, Old Crow Medicine Show\, bassist Marcus Miller\, and guitarist Christone “Kingfish” Ingram—contributed their parts remotely. \n“This album is where I’m at right now\,” says Keb’. “It might not fit neatly into a certain category (even though the music biz and algorithms like to keep me tightly in the blues genre). Don’t get me wrong: the blues is a very important part of my experience\, but it’s not all of who I am musically. Years ago\, I drove around in LA delivering flowers and listening to some of the greatest Nashville artists on the radio\, and now that I’ve lived here a while\, it’s probably shaped me even more. So the album might be ‘all over the place\,’ but the common denominator is always going to be me.” \nIndeed\, Good To Be manages to integrate a broad range of sounds\, bouncing from funky soul and gritty R&B to country twang and tender folk with deceptive ease. The blissful “Good Strong Woman” mixes buoyant vocals and pedal steel guitar as it celebrates the power of true love\, while the ultra-smooth “Sunny And Warm” channels a summer day in SoCal with its breezy guitars and Latin percussion\, and the mischievous “Medicine Man” splits the difference between Appalachia and the Delta with its back porch fiddle\, banjo\, and harmonica. The arrangements here are lifted and airy\, rarely seeming to touch the ground as they ruminate on commitment (“So Good To Me”)\, friendship (“Lean On Me”)\, joy (“’62 Chevy”)\, and emotional intimacy (“Quiet Moments”). Even when Keb’ tackles weightier topics like the environment and social justice on tracks like the tender “Louder” and stirring “Marvelous To Me\,” he still manages to hone in on the light at the end of the tunnel\, insisting on hope and faith in the face of doubt and struggle. \n“No matter what\, I’m going to maintain my optimism\,” Keb’ reflects. “I’m going to maintain my peace.” \nUltimately\, that’s what Good To Be is all about: appreciating what you’ve got\, where you come from\, and who you get to share it with. “It’s good to be you / It’s good to be me\,” Keb’ sings with an audible grin. “It’s good to be young / Good to be old / Good to be home again.”

DESCRIPTION:Featuring Melvin Seals\, Steve Kimock\, Jason Crosby\, Johnny Kimock\, Tom Guarna\, & Lamar Williams\, Jr. \nTwo-time Grammy winning bassist Oteil Burbridge has been touring and recording for over three decades. \nHe was a founding member of the early 90s southern jazz-fusion group Col. Bruce Hampton & the Aquarium Rescue Unit with Jimmy Herring\, Jeff Sipe and others that had a lasting and influential impact on artists for decades to follow. That led him to join the iconic southern rock group The Allman Brothers Band as their final bass player during their latter day lineup in the 1990s and into the 2000s. During his tenure with The Brothers\, they earned two Grammy nominations for best rock instrumental in 2003 and in 2004. In 2012\, Oteil received a Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award for his 15 year contribution to The Allman Brothers Band as the longest running bassist in the band’s history. \nIn 2015 Grateful Dead members Bob Weir\, Bill Kreutzmann and Mickey Hart joined forces with John Mayer to form “Dead & Company” with Burbridge on bass and Jeff Chimenti on keys. Dead & Company has headlined ten tours from 2015 to 2023 and played legendary stadiums across the country including Folsom Field\, Autzen Stadium\, Oracle Park\, Citi Field\, Fenway Park and Dodger Stadium. Beginning in May of 2024\, Oteil will be joining Dead & Company as they begin a residency at Sphere Las Vegas\, consisting of 24 shows in the summer of 2024. \n“Oteil & Friends”\, which features a rotating cast of all-star musicians (including Melvin Seals\, John Kadlecik\, Tom Guarana\, Jeff Chimenti\, John Morgan Kimock\, Jennifer Hartswick\, Jason Crosby\, Natalie Cressman\, Lamar Williams Jr.\, and more) began touring in 2017\, and continue to play shows and festivals today. In September of 2023\, Oteil released Lovely View of Heaven\, an emotional tribute to the musical legacy of Jerry Garcia and Robert Hunter while carving a unique path of its own. \nIn May 2024\, Oteil released “Love and War” recorded live at the 2024 Dead Ahead Festival in Cancun\, Mexico.
