DESCRIPTION:For 55 years\, Tower of Power has delivered the best in funk and soul music. \n“We were a Soul band called The Motowns.” recalls Emilio Castillo. “Rocco was the bass player\, I was there\, and my brother was the drummer. I met “Doc” Kupka back in 1968\, and gave him an audition. He came in the band\, and we eventually changed our name to the Tower of Power.” The reason for the band name change was that they had a specific goal in mind. \nEast Bay Grease defined their sound and landed them with Warner Brothers. Bump City\, their 1972 debut for the label\, was a hit on both the Billboard 200 and the R&B Albums chart\, and netted them the hits “You’re Still A Young Man” and “Down to The Nightclub.” The 70s were a boom period with radio classics like “So Very Hard to Go” and “What Is Hip?\,” and the band continued to tour and record over the years. Castillo says their love of the stage is the same today as it was back in 1968. \n50 years later\, in 2018\, they returned to Oakland to celebrate their landmark 50th anniversary. Tower’s window-rattling grooves and raucous party spirit has been a balm for the soul throughout their half-century existence\, but the release of 50 Years of Funk & Soul: Live at the Fox Theater couldn’t have arrived at a better time. \nThe band has long since surpassed Castillo’s modest aspirations\, traveling the world\, enjoying hit singles on their own and backing legendary artists including Otis Redding\, Elton John\, Santana\, the Grateful Dead\, John Lee Hooker\, Aerosmith\, Bonnie Raitt\, and countless others. In the process they’ve defined an “Oakland soul” sound as instantly recognizable as those from Castillo’s hometown\, Detroit\, as well as inspirations like Memphis and Philadelphia. \nThe future of Tower of Power is set out to be vigorous and dynamic\, and will prove to be just that for fans around the world starved for the band’s groove just the way Tower of Power likes it!

When the current lineup came together in 2012\, with many members hav ing joined years earlier\, Kantner couldn’t have predicted the band would become the road – conquering force they are today. \nThe five members of Jefferson Starship often describe themselves as both a “family” and a “gang\,” and this sense of camaraderie shines through in their performances. Over the years\, they’ve played in all 50 U.S. states\, five continents\, and countless count ries. Writing music for kids has not been a struggle at all. The more I started working on material for children\, the more I realized that it opened up creativity in me that I never knew I had.” \nThese days critics widely acknowledge Laurie’s major contribution toward launching what is now dubbed the progressive “kindie rock” movement – i.e. less saccharine\, more rocking music that is not dumbed down for children. But it wasn’t simply an enormous amount of talent that helped create an entire genre and skyrocketed Laurie to her current position as “the queen of kids’ music” (People magazine). \nIt was an ability to gain parents’ enthusiasm for the songs as well. According to Laurie\, “When I’m writing a song\, I’m thinking about whether the kids will like it and whether I’m going to connect to them through it. I’m also thinking about whether I want to sing it over and over again\, so I guess that’s the part that connects with adults. ‘Old MacDonald Had a Farm’ is a great song for kids\, but I couldn’t sing it 100 times!”

On the heels of his new comedy “The Problem with People\,” which he wrote\, produced\, and starred in alongside Colm Meaney and Jane Levy\, Reiser has upcoming projects across a multitude of media formats. \nIn March\, Carter Burke\, Reiser’s iconic character from “Aliens” will be re-emerging in a “what-if” concept comic book from Marvel comics. \nReiser co-wrote “What a Fool Believes\,” the candid\, freewheeling memoir of his friend and Rock & Roll Hall of Famer Michael McDonald which will be published May 21 from HarperCollins/DeyStreet. \nLater\, in July\, Reiser will appear in Netflix’s “Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F\, reprising his role from BH Cop 1 and 2 and will also appear in the independent comedy “The Gutter\,” directed by Isaiah and Yassir Lester\, premiering at SXSW. \nRecently Reiser could be seen in Hulu’s critically-acclaimed comedy series “Reboot” from Modern Family creator Steve Levitan. Awards Daily wrote “Reiser truly excels\, giving one of his very best performances…here\, he reminds us just how very funny and experienced he is in the world of television comedy.” \nHe also took his first step into bloody\, superhero glory in Season 3 of Amazon Prime’s Emmy-nominated The Boys playing “The Legend.” \nReiser is widely celebrated for his roles in two hit shows for Netflix: Stranger Things—the company’s biggest series of all time— and Chuck Lorre’s The Kominsky Method\, for which he received an Emmy nomination for Outstanding Supporting Actor.

Back then\, the two acts might have been separated by an ocean\, but together they helped define the “magic era” of classic rock. \nAt one point not too long ago\, they toured the world as a one-two combination\, but don’t count on it happening again. Luckily\, you can count on Foreigners Journey\, a veritable tribute-band supergroup\, to deliver the unforgettable experience of seeing both bands in one knockout show. \nForeigners Journey comprises veteran members of the music scene\, guys who’ve made it with their own original music.
