When a person begins the journey of creator to business owner, we consider a lot of factors: will we share the same clientele? Will they enjoy the new ideas I have for the business? How can I recreate a similar aura in order to keep them coming back?
These were all of the things that Tachou Brown, The Golden Hanger’s most recent owner, considered during her professional transition. The consignment shop has a long-standing reputation in the community thanks to its previous owner, and an evergreen future thanks to Tachou.
Businesses rely on principles, and sometimes we lose sight of those as time goes on. The Golden Hanger is a consignment shop where anyone in the downtown district can enjoy a thrifting trip! Tachou’s principles are centered around family and inclusivity, creating a dynamic change for the industry. Most consignment shops struggle with variety and balance, so she works endlessly to encourage all types of people to stop in when finding a new home for their beloved items, and ensures they’re paid better for their closets.
As a mother, it was important for Tachou to remain close to home so that she can be an active part of her family’s lives and still manage an income to support them. Despite fantastic job offers between Massachusetts and Florida, she finally settled into the beloved North Shore to both utilize her passions but remain actively involved in the home. Compassion and empathy are just a few of the skills Tachou brings to the table. This ties into her compassion for those of the community, ensuring that business recommendations revolve around those in the neighborhood and ensuring business goes digital when their shop faces closures during unexpected times.
Tachou knows that hopes and dreams can be scary when deciding on whether or not to get invested as a business owner, and her advice to others is simple: have empathy and patience with yourself. Every new business comes with pressures and challenges, and if you can remain true to yourself and your business goals, you will achieve them and even surprise yourself along the way.
In her free time, Tachou is both a certified yoga instructor and a veteran model with Maggie, Inc. Boston. She has worked alongside great designers such as Chanel, Gucci, and YSL to name just a few. Still a model and active community member, she holds arms wide open for those who want to work one-on-one in her yoga studio on their mental health and wellness journey, no matter what point they’re beginning at.
